Hello all, here's the video I made of dismantling the filter, replacing the cog and rebuilding the filter. Hopefully this will be useful, let me know if you have any questions.

I too have the AEM drum filter, and have the same problem that the uv light will not work when plugged into control panel, so I have it connected straight into seperate socket with convertor for euro plug same with the pump.
Had the control panel replaced under warrenty and same problem.

Brilliant video, it will make life a lot easier for anyone having the same problem in the future.
It looks quite involved, but having the video will give confidence to anyone not sure what to do.
Well done because I bet that was a bit daunting when you first started not knowing what to expect.

Zig had the same issue with two gear boxes before I was told about the plastic cog, on the 2nd one I also broke the the metal rod by tightening it to the stated torque so had to get another one sent and was told to tighten it to only 40nm as 63 I think it was put the rod under too much stress. Surely it would be an easy update to the instructions to let people know this? As for the control box. Mine has never worked but was told this is normal and most people just plug the UV into a different outlet

Hello all, I've had problems with the replacement parts to fix the UV ( link below ) . I think I'll go with the same approach as Craig and keep it plugged directly into a seperate power supply .

Merry Christmas everyone .

Sorry for the late response, the bulb blew in mine and the replacement bulb did not work. I had been in contact with Edwin at AEM several months ago when it initially stopped working, he did send me some replacement parts but they were different to the ones already in the UV controller, as the UV still worked then when I plugged it directly into the mains I didn't bother trying to replace the parts.
But now as it stopped working altogether, as a last resort (and when I checked the price of a new UV) I tried fitting the parts he sent me. To my amazement it actually worked, still need to plug it directly into the mains but don't mind that.
I've got some footage in the video below, hope it helps

One year on and having difficulty cleaning the drum mesh so I am just getting round to try fixing the amalgam. The slide valves were letting water past and making it impossible to disconnect the amalgam without getting everything wet. Have now used two 4” pipe bungs and had a good look at the amalgam and the controller. The amalgam looks ok but nothing is working, all I’ve got is the flashing red light on the controller. Other members have said they have plugged just the amalgam into a separate supply and it’s been ok but when I looked at doing this I was surprised to see that it actually has 7 wires coming from it so how on earth do I wire a plug onto it?
Any advice would be appreciated, would a new controller solve my issue or can someone explain how to fix to a separate supply.

Thete are two fuses on both sides under the power plugs on the control unit box - if you have the control box infront facing you with the side where the manyal clean button is, right hand side under the power plugs is the fuse for pond pump and on the left hand side is the fuse for UV-C - as I figgured out when having the same issue you face - just replace the amalgam UV-C bulb PLUS the left fuse and it should work fine....at least it did for me...

You get what you pay for - or better - what you make yourself.

I had to replace my control unit, not the units fault but mine, I let it get wet over time and it blew. The new unit when it arrived didn't work so I opened it up and had a poke around checking the fuses. I found that the fuse holders on the brand new unit did not hold the fuses in with any tension i.e the fuse could waggle about. I put some tension on the fuse holder legs and reinserted the fuses, the fuses are now held firmly in position and everything works. Worth a check although opening the unit can invalidate your warranty.
I think there is also a reset button or process for the UV.

Thanks guys I will have another look today and check the fuses etc.
Just wondering how much did it cost to replace the control unit Kenny?
I will let you know how I get on

I changed the fuse and I have now got a constant green light instead of flashing red but the amalgam is still not working. The bulb looks ok but is there any way of checking if it has blown?
If not I will have to invest in a new one and try it out.
I now need to get a spare fuse, does anyone know what they are because it’s impossible to read the markings on the ones I have.
I also have a new problem, water is dripping from the drums central cover where the shaft comes through the body of the drum. I noticed there is hole purposely to let water out before it builds up and gets into the electrics. I presume there is a seal on the shaft that needs replacing,
Rog.

As for the UV unit itself. I have the 80 watt filtreau I ended up buying a whole new unit after trying two new bulbs and neither of them working.
Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
