There was a video on here the other week of surface covers and all fish had died with no gas off . I would be worried about the same happening there aswell with the balls but that could just be me

I can see your concerns however they don't create a complete seal they are clear so let light through you could put a floating ring in to create a opening if wanted. Just seems like a good alternative the only problem I can see is storing them when not in use. But easier than large sheets of plastic or wood to store
Are they 100percent fish safe as some may advertise as such but dont always deliver. See where you coming from with storage tho . I did try with little ones play balls with a goldfish pond few year back and they seem to freeze together I picked one ball up and lifted the whole pond up but as I say they were play balls then koi ones could be different. Maybe some one on here has more experience with them as it could be a good cover might be a pain cleaning every ball as you take them out ?

That's the one mate aye . Horrible to watch like but drums home the importance of gas off

These are the ones I have seen https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1000-Euro...53.m1438.l2649 I think the gas would escape
For my pond that's over 500 quid for 9m2 polycarbonate is around 200 . I would struggle to warrant that like and as for storage I would need 4200 that's a fair few black sack fulls

Thank god for black sacks Johnathan...…………. :D:D
I was just looking for an alternative to having to store large panels my Pond is only 4 meters by 2 meters so not a massive surface area is 6ft deep I was more concerned about a large amount of plasit being in the water.
Nah, it's OK; didn't you see, in the listing? You don't need any black sacks, 'cos you get:
"Free Netsack - with every purchase of 1000 Balls
When used for storage or transportation they offer a very light and durable solution for approximately 2,000 Pool Insulation Balls that will not tear or rip so there are no risks of spillages. When used for washing they are designed to hold 1,000 balls loosely for cleaning with a non-toxic detergent. The drawstring can be used to hang them up to facilitate air drying and ready again for use.
They are a must-have with any Ball Purchase"
Phew!; that's a relief - dunno about you, but I just hate the risk of spillages, whenever I'm holding my balls!
I guess I'd have to agree that anything that alleviates that risk is indeed a "must-have" :D
Hahahahaha mint hahahah

When they sell these to water authorities one of the claims is they prevent gas exchange (couldn't find the exact website where that claim was made or why it was a selling point, but I definitely read it), yet when they sell to Koi pond owners they claim gas exchange is not restricted.... Well, the video of all those dead Koi proves otherwise.
Personally I wouldn't touch them, and I'm not overly convinced that the level of insulation would be any better than a tarpaulin cover.
Price storage gas off and insulation I'll feel poly bets them hands down. If you look at the pics in the ad they all show a s feeding ring for gas off which to me if opening the water to wind chill

Also heard that in strong winds you end up with 1000's of balls all over your garden - happy days :(
