Thread: Any off the shelf pipe that fits perfectly inside 4" pressure pipe?

Hello All,

Does anyone know of an 'off the shelf' pipe that fits perfectly inside 4" pressure? Whether it be PVC or stainless? I'm only going to need a short length for a potential upcoming project.

I might end up having to turn something down, but getting near enough would be 2nd best option of course.

No I'm on about lining the inside of 4" pressure for about 400mm, plus.

It's an idea of putting my UV in my bottom drain stand pipe, protecting the pipe and/or maybe having the whole thing lift out quickly when I purge my bottom drain.

OK, if you don't need to make a leak-proof joint and just want to protect the pipe from UV, here are two ideas you might consider:

Cut a suitable length of ordinary 4" soil pipe and slit it lengthways then, with the possible aid of a heat gun to soften it slightly, curl it into the pipe to make an internal sleeve. The natural "springiness" will keep it in place. I'd leave the ends of this sleeve overlapping rather than trying to cut a strip out of it so they don't overlap because UV light will be able to leak through any defects where the ends meet.

Alternatively, if that seems too much like buggering about, you could change the top section of the stand pipe using rubber boots and replace it every few years if it seems to have degraded. You could use the original pressure pipe for the first, maybe, five years then, if you don't have any more pressure pipe, you could use soil pipe for the next three years and so on.

At the risk of overexplaining, just in case I haven't made myself clear with mad idea 2:

To save draining the pond if there isn't a valve to shut, you could drop an inflatable bung down the pipe to below where you need to cut if you use suitable ingenuity to cut the riser pipe without cutting the air line to the bung. And, if there isn't a valve on the bung's air line, simply double it over and tape it doubled if you need to disconnect the air pump to slide the boots and pipe over it before releasing the air.

Yeah I'm thinking the cut and slot method but I was thinking it needs an end cap , so something 'off the shelve' would have made life easier, but I may have a brainwave on making that bit.
