Stopped my skimmer eating all the food

On my setup the return from the skimmer filter feeds the waterfall,
so every time I feed the fish i have to turn off the skimmer, which means no waterfall, which was very annoying.
Because i love just sitting by the pond feeding the fish with the sound off the waterfall going.
So came up with this idea, very simple, very cheap and very effective.
It just clips on the front of the skimmer stopping the skimmer eating all the food but itís still going and feeding the waterfall.
I just have to remember to take it off when Iím finished feeding.

That should do the trick nicely

Do you have an aerated bottom drain.

I usually just turn the bubbles on and chuck the pellets at the end of the pond furthest away from the skimmer.

I do have an aerated bd,
but with the way the pond is built the returns just push everything on the surface towards the skimmer in no time,

My son 3D printed a surround and a grid to stop food which sits in with magnets, so at feed times just drop in the grid.
Standard KockneyKoi skimmer BTW , I'll get a photo.

    sorted neighbours by
fitting a grill into the mouth of skimmer and putting jap matting behind it leaving an inch at the bottom to keep flow being pulled through.
just part of weekly cleaning regime takes all of five minutes to clean.

I just fitted 2 small air stones on a 20 lpm weatherproof air pump and put it on a countdown timer. I just press the switch and it runs the air pump for about 16 minutes. I was going to try to set it up to run in conjunction with a feeder but never round to setting up the feeder.

    Worked perfectly with manual feeding.

being looking at youtube all afternoon on pond designs and filtration and came across a guy who's made an oblong out of 40mm pipe ans 4 90 degree bends . he just drops feed in the middle and leaves it too them. suppose it's just a case of the fish getting used too it.

Hope you remembered to take the kids out first though

If not just get them to hand feed the fish

Bike inner tube works well, lightly inflated, simple and soft for the Koi to bash into

The only issue I can see with feeding rings is it's quite common for fish to take a few pellets and then spit some out as they swim away and then another fish eats those pellets but if they don't then those pellets will end up in the skimmer. I know they shouldn't be spitting the pellets out as that could point to a water quality issue but in most cases it's just a greedy or fussy fish taking more than they can eat or not liking what they've taken and then spitting it out.
