    What type of screw?

Hi Everyone. I'm going to be building a 4x2 frame to fit a fitter on outside. What type of screw, weather resistant and head type do people recommend? Thank you

    Personally I'd use standard screw fix (or similar) pozidrive screws: 100mm x 6mm &/or 80mm x 5mm.
If you want weather resistance that really means stainless, these will be expensive, but if you only need a few may be an option.
An impact driver will save you loads of time.

I've used them when cladding a little outside quarantine tank. They worked perfectly well, not noticed any corrosion as yet (two years or so).

those hex head timberlocks aren't bad, or the green corrosion resistant ones either,
Stainless are good but are not as strong as steel screws and snap more easily especially when power screw driving or using an impact driver.
spax do some good outdoor rated screws but are not cheap...

the BZP gold or silver screws rust almost instantly outside

Thank you Dave. Just never got on with the cross head screws. I think the green coated ones would be ideal with the wood being treated And I was told the hex head on them is 8mm. So should drive in well.

Timberlocks are OK and very long lasting (even easy to remove after 10 years). They are expensive though. Anything with the green "decking" coating will be fine. Stainless is rather more difficult to work with. Expect to have to pilot ever hole, even in softwood if going down this route

Before you go buying expensive screws, have you figured out yet which end of the screwdriver to hold?

I have always lubricated any screw that I’m using outside, my woodwork teacher at school taught me this and it works, they go in better and come out okay ten years later.
Originally I used beef fat poured from the Sunday joint into a small container until the dog ate it, Arrrrgg!
These days I dip each screw thread into silicone grease or even rub it along a block of beeswax, it makes a big difference.
