DIY mk2 drum
Some will remember I made a drum from an old washing machine a few months ago which works fine, but,as it's for a grow on / quarantine tank of 350 gals I need to add some salt at some stage and the alloy on the pulley etc reacted with the salt and furred up and it was too big for a small tank.
So I decided to redo the whole tank, got a 62 ltr Wham bam plastic box which I have used in the past but what a job to find a plastic drum to fit.
Settled with a 10 ltr one,I know it's small but think it will be ok for my small grow on.
Basically it is going to turn on the pipe work and the inlet is going straight inside the drum to a T which is blanked off and the other side of the T is for the waste.
So there are no seals to worry about and all the poo should go straight into the drum to be seived out, will be useing all the elecs and motor from the old drum.

You can get the full idea in pic 1,and pic 2 is it in place but not glued up yet.
Pic 4 shows the inlet side of the T blanked off and pic 5 shows the full pipework,on the left of the pic you can see the inlet curved on the 2ins pipe and the right goes to waste.
Pretty confident it will work

Finished now and working ok,you can see in the second picture the rgt 2ins pipe goes to the sequence pump and also goes to a valved waste to drain the drum if needed.
The top pipe is the waste outlet.
Only got three spray bars which is fine as it's for a small quarantine tank, all it needs is some water and koi inJohn

Would the washing drum out a washing machine that has stopped working work for something like this? Ours had electrical faults most likely from the control board so replaced it as hotpoint would charge us more to fix it than replace it!

My last drum was from a washing machine and worked well, see my DIY bit.
The drum bit is great as stainless but the pully mechanism is alloy and if you use salt it furrs up with white deposits that is why I changed it.
Hard to find a container big enough for the washing machine drum Sam.John
