    Diy bakkishower bottom tray?

Just installed my baki shower after much deliberation over the cost, I’ve ended up using 600x400 euro boxes and more or less followed dazzlekoi’s guide on you tube, using aqua source Kano, what I have noticed in the first couple of days is the bottom tray/box holds a lot of water despite having a 4” return, now as I understand it, the media is at its best with water running through it rather than being submersed so is my bottom tray actually filtering anything?
at the moment I’ve only put in 30kg of Kano as a bit of a test run, I could squeeze in another box over the four trays but that would be about the limit, so am I better off taking some out of the bottom tray to aid flow and spreading it over the upper three?
just wondered how others have done it?

on another note I’ve still got the conundrum of the UV to sort, as can be seen I’ve currently got a very temp setup to test the flow with the baki shower, trying this idea of the ball valve on what would be a straightish run to divert x amount of water to the UV downside is, you’ve no idea how much of your water is going through it at anyone time and all the bends and t’s required are very much detrimental to the flow to the bakkishower, I very much suspect that I’m closing the ball valve to that extent to make it work that virtually all my flow is being diverted anyway, I know from the level in my barrels I’m actually moving less water through my system than I was before I installed the shower despite running my pump @ 15% more than I was, if I can find something that works I’ll redo all the pipe work in maybe 2”.
my original gut feeling was buy a far bigger UV and run all my water through it but ended up going for a 25w which in theory was more than adequate for my pond size but is now coursing me a load of grieve.

i was going to build my bakki shower from euro boxes, even bought the boxes, but they ended up being used for storage
but decided to get a QK maxi shower instead.

but i did specify for the 110mm spigot outlet's to be on the bottom as with a side spigot you will get water build up of water inside, as it's not as open as a standard 3ft wide or open bottom slot and tray...
i thought a side spigot might be more prone to dirt building up in the areas holding water rather than running straight down a pipe.
but shower media will still filter but as a submerged not shower media...

i had not heard of the kano media from aqua source, but looks to be the same as CSM, looks, colour, and size are identical...
but CSM actually works out slightly cheaper especially for more than 1 box.
i bought an extra 4 boxes (came as 2 double size boxes of about 150 pieces. not counted but 14 rows x 11 rows)
for about 300 pieces total at £235 plus quenis £11.75 discount voucher credit making it about £223...

All a bit embarrassing really, I’d only left a 4” to 1.5” reducer on the pond end of my return pipe which I put on as a temp thing when I first got the pond up n running needless to say once removed the bottom tray emptied! All’s good now apart from this uv situation which is slowly but surely sending me round the bend!
tried this today as tester and I can’t get anywhere near enough flow through the thing, with my pump on full tilt it’s probably half what I need for the bakkishower, need a total rethink.
