My final design after much trial and error. Much happier with this setup. Better than spending 100’s on a shower lol.

Morning John.
Question, how big a hole did you cut in the bottom of the upper tanks. My lids have an oppening of 16x9 inches and I was going to cut the bottom of the tank on top 10x3 to take care splashing.
I've used some fancy Korean filter mats plus coral in a bag
See pictures below
Your setup looks amazing mate.

Hi mate, thanks my filtration is BD into nexus 220 into 10k pump through Uv and up to bakki shower. Got about 6ft head going up to the shower but the flow is really good tbh. I don’t know exactly how much but the shower doesn’t overflow lol. I have 3 50mm outlets on the bottom box. 1st chamber some hel-x lying around then the rest is grog and a knock of bhm. Do it mate cannot go wrong with a DIY bakki

Hi Neil, I left about a 2ins rim around the base to hold the mesh, but I cut the base in two pieces to leave a strip in the middle for reinforcement of the box though not sure if I needed to but did no harm.
The lid which it sits on is a bigger cut so the water doesn't hit it,wasnt supposed to but it seeped under the base onto the lid but went in ok and didnt spill over.
The base sits on small feet to let air circulate round the media, the idea of a shower is to get the water over the media fast and not to let any media sit in water,it must flow over the media.
Not sure what your upright pipes are for ?John

Thanks for the reply John
The boxes I bought here in Thailand seem quite sturdy but there was now way I was going to see if they would hold my 18 stone frame like you did ,. So I cut some 3 inch pipe to help support the 2 boxes above. I just did it in the bottom box.
I still have to get a few more fitting but hopefully I will have it up and running later tomorrow.
I'm not sure how this coral will work as a bio media but hopefully it's as good as the pretty sales lady said it was going to be
Later

Wouldn't call myself that mate, but i enjoy tinkering and hate koi tax much rather make things.
Yours looks fine to me mate, you have the filter grids which let's water through fast, though maybe the ceramic needs to be on its side and at random, maybe wrong but sure I read it somewhere and saw it like that on others.
And you have good exits, they are so simple to do really.
When I made my seive that was loads more complicated.John

Hi John,
Just come across this thread and glad I did! Your filter looks bag on and coincidentally I've bought the same boxes as you in 65ltr.
I've drilled the bottoms of two of them and am about to cut the lids. Could I ask where you got the crate from and what size you ordered?
Cheers
J

Should have said when I cut the bottom out I left about a 2ins lip around the edge and a supporting strip in the middle, hope it makes sence.

Thought I would carry on this thread with a shower build for Samurai Jack alias Mo.
20200826_145333.jpg
This will be a three tier shower with 62ltrs in each tier.
These are the same boxs as I have used in the past with no problems and I know some have been questioning them but I have had no problems at all with them.
The 62ltr boxs arrived this morning so I thought I would crack on with them.
They have all been cut out and ready for the circular 2ins spray bar to be made tomorrow.
Will put some more pics up tomorrow of the build.John
