    DIY solar pond heater.

    Attachment 30425Attachment 30426

As my pond is stuck in a corner in the shade and gets very little sun I have been looking on you tube at ways of putting some heat in in the summer months.

Came across this and a lot of Americans make these to heat their swimming pools and Saunas.
Thought i would give it a go.

The back board is osb and 4ft by 3.5 ft which I allready had.
Side rails are 3ins by 1ins which I had as well.
Bubblewrap on the back but I think polystyrene or some insulation board would be better.
Hose pipe from Screwfix 50mtrs £15.99.
I couldn't work out how much hose I would need and really I could have used a smaller board,or get another 25 mtrs of hose

Will be covered in with a sheet of polycarbonate.
So basically it will be on the roof of my pond facing the sun when it's out and will work like a mini green house to warm the water circulating slowly round the coil.
Will put a valved T from my return or use a small pump or a solar powered pump would work as you only need it on when the suns out.

Think it will work but obviously only when the suns out.

    What do you think guys?
Should have said will be sprayed Matt black to attract the sun.

It will work bud are you spraying it all black? I was going to do same with 12 v pump for caravan and rig that to battery with solar panel, and use 12 v temp sensor to control the pump on and off incase it boils the fish, and yes we are all fine thanks hope you and yours are too

Use a genital coat of primer first, should stop it reacting too much

Just primer bud light dusting and let it dry between coats then the black won't burn the plastic so easily, again just dust it on so it drys quickly between coats

Always lowering the tone with smutt Mr Higgins, tut tut and at your age I doubt priming would be enough! You would need a defibrillator lol
