Sounds like you have a plan same as me but it's the start that's holding us both back as with you once you turn things off to replace you have to go for it and get it finished or nothing will work is that correct? MIne is trying to gets answers so I can make a start lol.

Well i have fitted the shower and it went in very easily, not happy with the spray bar on the top,as they are just pushed together and not s/welded i took them out and drilled another set of holes.
But as the flow goes round in a circle the water is coming out of the holes at an angle and still not happy with it.
Could i use a 4ins pipe going straight in the middle with holes then blanked off at the end?
Thinking maybe let more water in then drop more vertically if you know what i mean, would that be better?John

There you go,you can see the way the flow is going and in pic 3 and 4 no water is coming out of the top holes.John

I see what you mean about the water not coming out of the top holes John.
As for the 4" are you saying - run a 4" horizontally across the top but just a single 4" instead of the current pipe going all round the top or are you saying have a 4" dropping vertically down into the top with a stop end on it and holes drilled in the sides? If you were to fit a solvent weld stop end you could drill holes in that as well as the sides to give a more even spray possibly if using a vertical drop?

Thats it Frim,i have a rubber reducer to 4ins, and run one horizontally across the middle of the tank to stop end with holes drilled in the horizontal pipe.
As it will be a shorter pipe would i need more holes or just bigger ones?
I dont want the first hole to be pissing out then get weaker towards the end stop if you get me.John

id drill 3 lines of holes 1 bottom and and 1 either side at a 45 degree ,make the bottom holes smaller than the side ones, maybe 2mm in middle and 5mm in each side, you could also altenate the holes,so the ones in middle dont line up with ones on side, andi

I was reading another thread on here a little while back regarding hole sizes in DIY spray bars and the way I think you work out the hole sizes and numbers of holes required is to run the system without the spray bar fitted just with the water being pumped into the top of the shower to get the correct flow that works for your setup then I think you work out the cross sectional area of the outlet of the pipe using the following formula -
Pi x the radius squared
So if you are using 40mm internal diameter pipe -
3.14 x (20 x 20)
On a standard calculator is probably easier to go -
20 x 20 x 3.14
And that works out to 1256mm squared
Once you know the internal CSA of the pipe you can start to work out the hole sizes and numbers required.
I think the smallest hole size you want is 6mm which means you will need 45 holes - well 44.4444 holes but you may have a problem drilling 0.4444 of a hole.
If you went for 8mm holes you'd only need 25 holes, 10mm give you 16 holes and 12mm gives you 12 holes (11.1111 holes actually).
Basically you will need to work out the smallest hole size to use that you can drill into the spray bar as drilling a few holes will take some accurate measuring and drilling.
May need to double check my figures.
Basically you are trying to make the outlet of the 40mm pipe out of multiple smaller holes to allow you to get the correct spray coverage and flow rate through out the length of the spray bar and with slightly bigger holes there is less blocking issues later on hopefully.
Smaller holes give more pressure but are more likely to block should any much get pumped through them over time.
If you have got a spare length of pipe to make a couple of spray bars you could try various hole sizes to see what works best as waste pipe isn't too expensive to replace should you need to is it?

Take the link pipe out and have 2 separate pipes and try that first.
Drill a hole in the top of each end and water will come out. Keep adding holes in the spray bar until no water comes out of the top hole then you have your limiting flow.
I may be wrong, I’ve been in the sunshine a long time today already
