Thanks
Just had some kind of good news related to telling the fun sponge about the tank etc
She keeps asking about what to do with the fish in regards to moving house so I can set the plan into action shortly lol________________________________________________

Well it would have to be a lot quicker as everything will be in the QT so we can move then see if I can do a quick bigger temporary pond to move them into or at least some of them into while the main pond gets built.

Just did a quick 10% water change earlier today and have sussed the issue I had with gravity fed small volume set ups lol. Just cleaned the Eazy Pod by doing 2 x 3 minutes boils and 2 flushes. OK first boil was simple, just turn off the pump give it a few seconds for the water level to settle then fit the cleaning tube, shut the various valves and turn on the air pump, jobs a good'en. The problem is after draining the Eazy Pod and trying to refill it for the second boil which as the water level has just dropped isn't as easy so was initially thinking of putting a temporary pump in the tank just to refill the Eazy Pod for the second boil. But thought that would possibly be a bit stressful for the fish so went back to old school ways and used a bucket to top up the Eazy Pod for the second boil lol the 2 flushes are easy as there is still enough water in the tank to part fill for those 2 flushes
All that time trying to find a solution and a bucket was the answer all the bloody time lol
Not only is it a free way of moving the water it's also a bit of exercise too lol well at my age, every little helps
Just added some Interpet Bioactive Plus before topping the tank back up.
Will test the water later just to make sure everything is heading in the right direction parameter wise.________________________________________________

OK the test results as promised
Taken at 9:50 am
Temperature - 7.0
Chlorine - none
Ammonia - 0.25
PH - 7.4 to 7.6 (right on the edge of the low and high range tests colour charts)
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 20
KH - 11 to 12?
GH - 19 to 20?
Phosphate - 1.0
OK the Ammonia is a tad high and possibly the Phosphate but at the current water temperature the main one the Ammonia isn't an issue if I'm understanding the chart where PH, Ammonia and temperature are linked to the toxicity of Ammonia?
Seeing as the system has only been running a couple of weeks tops and only had koi in it last Friday afternoon I think it's doing OK. Yes I know the Ammonia is going to spike followed by the Nitrite and then the Nitrate as the system matures but hopefully a careful eye on the koi and the water parameters will keep things under control________________________________________________

Probably helps with some of those figures that the koi aren't eating the food I normally use so I'm going to have to get some NT Labs stuff like they have been use to previously. They have eaten a small amount I think but not what I would have expected due to the size of them etc?

Looking good then Frim, is it worth looking into adding salt just while the filters get going in order to help guard against any problems when that nitrite spike arrives?, wouldn't take much to dilute it out once everything is settled.
Just a thought, but then you'll probably be able to keep it in check with your water changes anyway.

Strange thing I found today. The heater controller is showing the heater is off and the neon indicator on the socket the heater is plugged into confirms the heater is off but the heat has risen to 11.2 when the heater cuts off at 10.5 max. The only thing I can think is the compressed air from the air pump is pumping warm air into the water as the room temperature isn't as warm as it would need to be to raise the water temperature. Will turn off the air pump later on and see if the temperature drops to 10.5

Maybe I'm wrong it's not the air pump heating the air and raising the water temperature as the temperature in the garage was about 15 degrees this afternoon and the water temp was upto 11.9 I think! That's not looking good for the current Ammonia and pH readings I got this morning according to Manky Sanke's chart on his site
Looks like some water changes are coming ASAP!!!
Just need to get the media matured as fast as I can now so have ordered some filter start gel from Gaz at Aurora________________________________________________
