Just going to start easing up the temperature to try to stop the fluctuations.
Set to 13 last night from 12. Seeing as or was sitting at 12.7 and should have only heated to 12.5 the drop would be 11.5 from 13.
With the current temperature fluctuations I would like to get it to 16 by next weekend and if my theory is correct it should then only be going between 15.5 and 16.5?
I still think that the compressed air from the air pump is having a slight heating effect and seeing as the sensor is sitting right over the air diffuser it might be getting a false reading? So I've now got a floating thermometer in the tank at the opposite end to see if the readings are any different.________________________________________________

OK it's looking like the filter is doing something now as last night I got a slight change in colour for the Nitrite reading. It was somewhere between 0 and 0.25 temperature is currently up to 14.5 so should be holding 14 to 15 degrees C so getting it to 16 by the weekend looks promising.
I was feeding 2 x 3 grams per day but as soon as I detected Nitrite I stopped feeding. Now going to try 10% water changes to lower the Ammonia and Nitrite readings and hold off on the feeding too.________________________________________________

Managed to get the temperature controller up to 16.5 last night so that should keep the water between 16 and 17
Filter still not reducing Ammonia yet even after 4 days of 10% water changes and on Sunday I did a 20% water change and filter clean.
Going to test the water again this afternoon and see if there is any change.
The sanke was sulking a bit but seems to be up swimming around with the other 2 as of Friday I think.
I don't normally name my fish but as these 3 are easy to spot I thought I'd give them names
I think the showa because it appears to be the friendliest is going to be called Fred. The goshiki is going to be called Patch and what else could the sanke be called but Syd lol________________________________________________

Looks like Ammonia is starting to drop now along with the KH. Shame the Nitrite is still quite high.
Not sure whether or not to add salt or keep going with small water changes?________________________________________________

Bit of a result today, tested the water and the Ammonia is now down to 0. First time for about 2 weeks that it's dropped back down to a decent reading. Hopefully a few more 10% water changes may see the Nitrite reading drop to 0 as well?

I saw the Ammonia starting to level off on Wednesday I think so thought I'd risk starting to feed again but just 1 small feed a day but didn't have time yesterday for a water change or test so it was good to see the Ammonia level had dropped as much as it did

Yeah true. You've not had it up and running for that long, but sounds like you are on top of it.
I guess there is less margin for error on a smaller body of water than a pond.
I'm still building my Qt, at the moment. I'm mostly pissing about sanding down sharp bits and then somehow creating more when I put more top coat on
You definitely did the right thing just buying one.

Not looking forward to our next water bill as the amount of water that's going through that system is going to show up big time
Being able to heat has helped speed things up a fair bit too I'd like to think?
How's your QT system going then? Much left to do before the big fill up?________________________________________________
