New seals and bearings on 750 sequence pump

    Attachment 22446Attachment 22447Attachment 22448Attachment 22449Attachment 22450Attachment 22451Attachment 22452Attachment 22453

On my system i run two sequence pumps and both of them after 16yrs of trouble free service decided to start leaking from their seals.
I removed one of them and stripped it down which is quite easy to do,i didnt take any pics of the strip down these are of the rebuild, but its basically removing the bolts securing the propeller housing then to remove the prop a large flat screwdriver on the fan end opposite end to the prop to stop the shaft turning then unscrew the prop anticlockwise you will then see the seals, press out the one by the prop it will have white porcelin inside the rubber seal.
To remove the spring end of the seal on the black backplate there are four nuts as in pic 7 they need to be loosened but not all the way, turn the backplate and it will rotate then pull off.On the fan end remove the cover which can be levered off, then remove the long thin bolts going through the cooling fins then the whole shaft can be tapped out with a screwdriver on the fan end,so you are left with the shaft with the two seals on it.
To remove the seals you need a bearing pulley,i didnt have one so bought one from ebay about £6 get the 4ins one at least but i had to grind and modify it so it would grab under the bearing ok.My bearings seemed ok but i thought i would change them less than £3 each on ebay, the no is 6201-zz c3 which is stamped on the bearing.

To put the new bearing on i used a socket but make sure it sits on the inner of the bearing then tap it in,i had to put another socket on top because of the long shaft but they go in easy and they come ready lubricated.
The rest is all reversal till you get to the seals,on the spring seal on the backplate press the old one out from the back and clean up the surface of the backplate seat well.New seals i found hard to find,e/a dont do them and you have mdm in the states, but i found a guy in N yorkshire who had them cost £23 which was fair but he has since put his price up a lot.The Chinese have a lot but the sizes vary a lot i needed the 750.0414.

You must not touch the surface of these seals as grease from your fingers can harm them,so on the spring backplate put some silicone on the seat of the plate and press the seal in being carefull not to get anything on the surface of the seal, should have said there is a rubber washer on the shaft behind the backplate to stop any water leaking into the motor when the seals leak just slides on.
The other seal on the impeller just pushes in no sealant needed as it is the wet side but do not touch the white porcelin.Screw on the impeller making sure the small washer in the impeller is put on should have mentioned it on the removal as it is very small.
I left mine overnight for the silicone to go off so will be fitting it today and have the other pump to do then.

I should get a few more years from them now hopefully and i hope this has maybe helped someone to do theirs, not hard to do and a good time of the year to do it,anyone need any more info just ask.

Stripped down the other one so waiting for more parts and i have found another seal supplier will let you know what they are like.

Should have said the seal from Seal and pump after vat and del was £22.61 so i would have been better sticking with Fluid pro on ebay,so for £25.57 you get all seals and bearings not too bad.

Hi john, I don't seem to be able to get the pics /attachments from the start of the thread, I have ordered replacement seals from fluidpro, what is the tube of grease for in the pack, and the shaft, screw off the impeller how does that seal thingy underneath come off, is that the one that needs total removal of the shaft and a bearing puller, I don't know what is in my pack until it actually arrives, just looking at the sales pic on EBay, but all I ordered were seals as the actual pump has only had 2 months service, and leaked like a sieve when installed, been sitting around for a few years though.

Hi spark, A while ago now but my photo limit was full so had to delate some and must have been these
If just replacing the seals then dead easy, take off the housing six nuts I think.then you have the shaft and propeller.
On the opposite end of the shaft where the cooling fan is there is a small hole for a screw driver to hold the shaft while the prop is unscrewed.
Once the prop is off there is a small seal in there to remove and replace, and the rest is described as above.
I asked them what the grease was for but they didn't know so wasnt used.
DO NOT touch the new seal face be very very carefull fitting it.

Your pump shouldn't be leaking so early, do you have too much inlet pressure ?
These seals are very sensitive but very good if fitted well.
Will try and find the photos tomorrow as going out soon.

If you could find them john would be ideal. I still say that my pump is more of a siphon than a pump be seal could be the root of all evil
