Will this work on a gravity fed Eazypod set up? I would like to fill the pond up to a higher level but if over a period of heavy rainfall, the level rises in the Pod too and will overflow. Or am I better off drill a hole in the Pod and fit an overflow pipe instead? Cheers

hi koikoiho, I am going to pass on this as I don’t have a gravity fed system. I am pump fed and I wanted a trickle in

Hi mate, yes it will work on any system best to use push fit pipes so that you can adjust them easily.

    Hi everyone,

I came across this post a week or so back when j was trying to find an overflow solution to my pond that is almost entirely below ground, and therefore not practical to just put a pipe through the wall to siphon off.

I've got the bits as per the pics from Mel back in 2015 but about the priming (or sucking up the tall pipe by the outlet), how is that achieved? I'm hoping it's not meant that I try to get my lips round the thing and breathe in!

Got to be done, put your hand over the outlet and suck, you wont get a mouthful, then when you feel it coming up the tube open the outlet and let it go.
Once it is going you can remove the suction pipe and wont need to prime it again.
Control the level by swivelling the inlet.

Hmmm, this could be tricky. The only pipework I had spare was 50mm / 2", and my mouth don't open that wide!

May have to get creative with Henry the Hoover!

DIY over flow / trickle in / out pump fed pond

I made an automated overflow for my pond at my mums that’s 100% in the ground. I used a super fish pump with and elbow on the inlet with a length of pipe and a filter cage on which is about 4” below the surface that had a vertical float switch attached to it that’s controlled via a relay. When the water level gets to my max height the pump kicks in and pumps the excess to the garden

You need 1.5 ins push fit so it can be adjusted, even 1.25 Ins would do.

Despite my efforts, I can't get this overflow system to work.

Does the outlet have to be almost level with the inlet but just slightly higher, or is there no limit to how much higher it can be? I've used 2" pipework so not sure if that's a problem but guessing not if it's air tight. Only other slight twist is I've got a 90 degree bend in the pipe between the pond and the filter house. See image below.

I'm getting the water to 'suck' through but it's not 'flowing'.

The inlet has to be slightly lower than the outlet, when in place hand over the outlet and suck on the long pipe to prime it,once primed you control the flow on the inlet.

That is why I said best to use push fit as can be adjusted easily on the inlet.
I have mine screwed to the pond wall with a pipe bracket,if it moves it may need priming again.

Hope that explains ok mate, let us know if any more probs.

Yep, done all that. Hand over outlet, sucked in on longer tall pipe, water enters inlet (which is completely under water at the moment) and water comes up to outlet, I keep sucking till I get a mouthful (not by choice but just to ensure I've pulled enough through), remove hand from outlet, some water comes out and into bucket but at that point, it stops and no more comes through. It maybe that I have my outlet a bit higher than slightly higher than the inlet.

I want to get it working as with the pond at ground level and below, it's the only method I can see of automatically removing excess unless I do the float switch pump method but looks more involved and don't understand all the involvement of relays.

Just been out to look at mine and the outlet looks lower than inlet

If I remember right i had a right mess when i did mine as it didnt work!!!
I cut allsorts of pipe and settled for this and it works fine, definitely the inlet is higher than the exit if you can see in the picture.
The exit is a long pipe to reach the drain.
    Hope you havnt glued yours.
