New pond build - can someone check over my filteration ideas?

    Hi All,

I am currently reviewing my pond filteration ideas for a new pond build.

To give some context the pond will hold 11000 litres, its a raised sleeper pond with a waterfall blade feeding back to the pond from a bog filter set up.
The main concern I have had is feeding the water back to the pond from a raised bog filter, orginally I was going down the pressure filter route whihc I have now gone against reading the opinions of everyone on the forum.

My next idea I am scratching my head in whther it will work or not.

The pond will have a bottom drain which I would like to feed a Lotus Green Genie 60000 box filter, the water to then be drawn by an external 20000 litre (variable) external pump to the bog filter. Would this work and if so how would the plumbing look for this?

I will also have a wide mouth skimmer installed on a seperate pump feeding directly back into the pond (if thats a good idea or not).

I would like to keep 10 koi and 10 goldfish in the pond with this set up. If this is acceptable or not?

Any help would be appreciated, I appreciate its difficult to get the right message across with written words and sometimes its better to see things in person, I am located in Telford SHropshire if anyone near me could demonstrate their set up that would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Dave,

Honestly I cant say to much about the hole setup, Im not that professional or experienced as other might be here, but ai have a similar setup that works well, the water is crystal clear. Its a hybrid pond. The top 1m depht is rocked, the bottom is clear liner that has a slight slope to a bottom drain. Instead of any manufactured mechanical filter I got a 1000l reservoir with diy filter brushes and it acts as a settlement tank. Then a 16000lph pump takes it to a bog filter.
The idea for the skimmer, I have a separate 7000lph pump that has a basket and 2 filtermats on the pump. Its feedimg directly back to the pond to circulate the water. Havent had an issue with it.
I believe the Lotus filter that you mentioned would work great too.
I wouldnt advise following my plumbing idea as it was a budget built with flexible 1 and half inch pipes. The bottom drain has proper 4inch pipes tho.
    Hope this helps!

Why a bog filter, which will only work in the summer when the plants are actively growing?
Why not fill the bog filter space with biocenosis baskets?

You can plant the top layer and have the same plants as you would in the bog filter, but it will work all the year round.
