New Pond Plan
Hello all,
I inherited my late grandfathers pond a couple of years ago (Blagdon Affinity Grand Octagon) with a Koi and numerous goldfish. The koi is far too large for it and I’m thinking of building my own pond with railway sleepers.
My plan so far is 2.4m length x 1.2m width x 1.1m depth (30cm underground). This should give approx 3168 litres
I guess I’ll need a concrete base underneath the sleepers at the edge, and a bed of sand for the bottom of the liner.
As for filtration and keeping it clean, would something like this be suitable:

I’ve read a lot about the Nexus kits but they are way out of my price range and maybe overkill for what I’m after.
Any advice given would be much appreciated!

You just need a concrete collar as a foundation for the sleepers.
3070 Gallons. 4" Bottom Drain and Skimmer. Draco Solum 16 Drum. Anoxic Filtration. Air lift returns.

Thanks for the reply. I thought as much with a concrete base for the sleepers.
I’m more unsure as to what filter system would be suitable and if the one I linked would be adequate.
Thanks

For one Koi, yeah probably. If I was you, I'd look into an easy pod.

I’d probably want to add a few more koi if I’m going to build a bigger pond. Not sure how many koi I can expect to get in and what filter system would manage it

If you want a few Koi you'll need at least 5000litre or 1000 gallons for 3 or 4 adult fish and a major rethink of filtration.
3070 Gallons. 4" Bottom Drain and Skimmer. Draco Solum 16 Drum. Anoxic Filtration. Air lift returns.
Bubbles in return with two pumps...
Perhaps with the single pump at high flow the bubbles still get sucked in but are greatly...
