    Concrete pond build

    Hello all,
I知 planning on building a concrete pond. Just at the initial planning stages, but looking for some advice to see if I知 on the right lines or not.

So the pond will be a rectangle 2.25m wide, 5m long and 1m deep. So 2474 gallons I believe

I知 planning on doing concrete walls and base, with MDf to make a pre form to make the walls shape. My reason for this is that I own a concrete mixing truck, so cost of the concrete isn稚 really an issue.

To begin with I知 going to dig and pour footings which are at least 4 inch deep. (Do I even need footings though?)

Then make MDF walls 1 metre high, allowing concrete to be poured internally at 6 inch thick. All MDF forms will be heavily strengthened and will be putting rebar mesh throughout the internal, any ideas how thick rebar needed?

Only 2 walls will be seen afterward, and will be faced with something, so doesn稚 matter to much about marks on the concrete wall. I do also have access to a concrete poker for vibrating the concrete as we pour it into the walls.

Not to sure how the deep the concrete base will need to be? And guessing it will need rebar in it also.

Was also considering when I do my footing to stick some rebar in there, so the wall can adhere to if afterward.

Once that痴 all done, I was going to line the pond with a thick pond liner.

Will this even work? Have I missed anything major? Any advice is very welcome.

Apologies for the long message, hope it all makes sense

Can't help on the technicals but certainly yes to rebar and definitely if using standard size sheets for shuttering 8x4' I would suggest getting the maximum depth, not stopping at 1M, an extra 500 gallons and better depth for the fish.

IMO a custom box liner would also be far better than having many folds in corners.

    Good luck, sounds great!

Yeh, I would definitely consider going a bit deeper if that would help the fish. Thanks for the advice

    Morning Keith,

I was planning on buying a suitable filtration system, to be honest I hadn稚 considered a bottom drain or skimmer. But will do some research now!

take your time the more research the better .save you a lot of heart ache etc further down the line.
pond builds on you tube will give you food for thought. no such thing as over filtration the bigger the fish grow the more food you feed them and we all know what comes next Poo. im on my third generation of filtration due to not knowing what i was doing 22 years ago.

What sort of ground are you digging on? This dictates a lot about how to construct the pond.
