Thread: KK skimmer

    KK skimmer

Does anyone know or have a picture of the correct running height of the above skimmer. I like to run my pond almost to the copings and want to know if I can set this flush with the liner height or if it needs raising to the height of the copings. Also, anyone got the dimensions of the face plate? I've currently to a return where I'm planning on fitting it and want to make sure that it'll cover the resulting hole!

I'd wait for others to comment but I'd say the way to go is to have the top of the door at or slightly above the water line.

The top of my skimmer is in line with the top of the pond, below the coping stones, but I find this is too low. When the pond is full it doesn't clear the surface very well, seems to suck water in from below the surface level and the surface debris just floats on past.

When I lower the water level to just a fraction below the top of the door, all the surface debris gets sucked in.

I run mine at just about the top range of its running height, which appears to be 50mm from top of the plate to water height. But mine is generic brand pool skimmer (which I think the KK is a rebrand of anyway). The photo sits at 48mm, but I didn't want to get caught getting the Mrs tape measure wet!

It skims perfectly, all of the time.
The water cannot get much higher than this, in my pond as it overflows into drum waste shute.

You could possibly go a little higher (5mm), but when the wind is on the pond and surface is choppy, water would be sploshing out the skimmer hole and possibly blowing the cover off etc.

Absolutely perfect, it definitely needs to be set at the level of copings in this case. Fingers crossed there is enough liner spare where the return is and it'll fit. Otherwise its a mess about with pipework getting to fit. I wonder if the return directly under the skimmer is a bad thing?
