Same as you Steve, the water here is rock hard. Shortly after my drum was installed the mesh became completely scaled up, causing the drum to malfunction and the pond started to empty out.
I now clean it with brick acid every twelve weeks and so far all has been good.
    7500 litres
    Filtreau combi with uv.
    Some koi

The gang.jpg A trip to New forest koi today to buy some inmates. Only two of them were my choice, its a family affair! They love having 25tons of water to swim about in and they love the window. Personality differences were easily visible after afew minutes of observation.

An update-almost there. Still odd bits to do. jump guards to go on,heron electric fense, bog filter and shelves for pots but the nitty gritty is complete. The alley way filter house is perfectly funtional and my pond is silent which I love. I have wrapped the drum in tank lagging and have done the same with the bacci trays. Because its not in view it doesnt have to be aesthetically pleasing, just functional. the compressors are remote in the garage so I cant here them either. There has only been one compromise in having a filter house thats 1m wide- the ASHP doesnt have the ideal clearence around it but I have lifted it off the ground to try and reduce recirculation.

don't suppose you could cut a big hole in your fence and put some mesh in to allow the air to flow straight through it
having a stright run makes a big difference to performance mostly in winter, but if you're in a windy location that helps.
Though i've seen worse ASHP locations, a member on here once had one inside an enclosure

I'm waiting for the house next door to go on the market. On changeover day I will be out there with the jigsaw! 'Thats always been there, Jim said it was ok!'
Fortunately it is a windy location.

not many have the room for an ideal location, completely out in the open, but out of sight...
