I'd put it on the floor after levelling it and go for a Tommy side drain with a 90 bend pointing at the bottom. If you leave a 10mm gap between the 90 and the bottom of the tub it will work the same as a bottom drain. Just point the returns at it from the other side of the tub.
Or as you say, stick to pump fed until pond is built.Kikusui, Beni Kikokuryu, Hariwake, Sanke, Yotsujiro, Doitsu Aka Bekko, Purachina & Mukashi Ogon.

All we ever wanted was everything,
All we ever got was cold,
Get up, eat jelly, sandwich bars and barbed wire,
Squash every week into a day.

Gotcha - is your tub a thick or thin plastic? My poly pond is about an inch thick so think it may have enough support. For mine i'm planning to attach the bottom drain and 4" pipe while the tank sits on its side, then some how slowly lower it down into the hole, and somehow line up the pipework to the trench. If I start my build before yours and it completely fails, I'll give you a warning to go pump fed LOL!

Wish I was in UK! We can't source any RDFs here without paying an arm and a leg for import fees, and can only import two brands!! The thick walls are great as it gives you extra support with screws and such.
Most people give away damaged poly rainwater tanks, usually when they get holes in the roof. Good for fish keepers as you cut the damage out and get a cheap pond. I have my 15,000litre pond for $200 aud.
