    CobraKoi finally does it

Well its been 4 years since I joined here.........
I've finally gotten started on my pond after a 6 month DIY house refurb turned into 3 years .
I did manage to build a lily pond in the front garden though!

I've a lot of details to sort still but here is the equipment list .

    2 x DM vario (10k & 20K)
    25 watt evo UV
2 x eazy pods (bought used, will be adding moving bed at a minimum in future)
    1 x bottom drain
    2 x jabo air pumps.

    pond.jpg

Its hard to see from the pictures but there is a 300mm fall on the pond from front to back, I've also the waste water system to the left.
Spoil will be used to level the patio area & front side of pond.

The water garden is will separated from the main pond , I haven't figured out how yet but it will be under the bridge to create the illusion of one pond.
Bridge will be 3m and based on the bridge from out local Japanese gardens (where we had our wedding photos!).
The path over the bridge will lead under those 2 mature cheery blossoms to the garden bar (lockdown 1 project!).

    bar.jpg

The deep pond will be around 1m.
There will be some sort of filter house, possibly Japanese styled.

I've a busy weekend but hope to get some concrete mixed tomorrow and get the footing finished .
There is only 2 1/2 courses of blocks so shouldn't be too long but Its a one man show and I'm taking my time & enjoying it

Looks good mate are you sure the 2 easy pods will do the job? Looks a bit big for them to handle. I have one on a 8000 litre temp pond and I have set to clean 3 times a day and it still struggles

    No, I'm not.
But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it (pun intended).
I will be leaving my filter house big enough to take a nexus .realistically something i could pick up used.
I think it'll be between 20/25K Liters depending on how I dig it.

I forgot to say that I stumbled across the neighbors electric services so that could limit my depth in a section.
Its here but not sure what direction it goes after, its at around 400mm. Seems to have slack on it so shouldn't be too much of an issue.

    Bit of progress.
    Cavity blocks are all down.
I've started filling every second one with concrete. Seriously underestimated how much work that would be .
Once that is done the 4" solids will be going on. Water level will be halfway up that block.
Checked all the levels with a laser and thankfully its looking good!

After that I'll be putting in a floor for the filter house, A job I'm dreading to be honest

This is going to be an epic build. Is it all above ground or are you also digging down?

    Thanks.
    It'll be dug down yes.
Probably a meter or maybe a bit more,
one side will be very shallow & for plants only.

Going to transplant reeds from the neighboring field into pond baskets.

The back and side of the wall will be somewhat visible so that will have to be plastered.

Make sure and soak plants in pp first . If taking from a field who knows what they could be carrying . Safe than sorry

    Few changes in the plan
First up the filter house is moving down the garden to take advantage of the slope.
If I put it here, it give me almost exactly 1m below water level so no digging down. It'll be 3m x 2m , maybe 3m x 3m .
The bottom drain run will be 10m. Skimmer 7m.

    Filter house.jpg

After mocking up the bridge it was obvious it was positioned wrong. If you stopped in the middle you weren't looking into the main pond at all so its going this way.
    pond2.jpg

Cavities are now full of concrete and have started the final course of blocks.
    Levels looking good too.
    PXL_20220601_211635314.jpg

Once the block work is done I have to get the 2" returns in, render the outside & start the filter house floor.
    So much to do....

    Main block work finished now.
    Finger tips are worn away
really happy with how it came out, its almost level too . About 5mm up/down which I'm really happy with for a DIYer.

    So another change of plans.
After I finished the blockwork it became clear that the hole thing was going to look a bit weird if I leveled the front .
It would look like a patio with a hole in it.
Decision was taken to add a sunken patio to the front and have a raised pond instead of a mostly inground one.
    Definitely the right call.

    Bit more progress,

    PXL_20220620_054316779.jpg

Got the dividing wall in last night and mocked up the bridge. Still some stuff to figure out but coming together.
The cats seem to like it anyway.
Level should be 10/15mm above at wall. I'll grind the edges off the blocks to avoid liner damage.

    PXL_20220620_212819934.jpg

Need to get the filter house base in next & order more supplies.

    Thanks!
Its a big project that is constantly getting bigger .
A pergola style frame & recessed wall lights have been added.
Also a good few 100 quid spent on plants so far, including a lovely ginkgo tree that I'll 100% regret planting when Autumn comes around
