That ground water will cause issues:
a) ground water will migrate through block and mortar, at one point with rain I had a little 'stream' caused by the mass of water runoff from the really wet weather we had but once it was backfilled it was ok.
b) damp will come through block and mortar so any soil on the other side touching it will make it damp.
c) damp wall = damp render/fibreglassing surface = problem.
So depending if you insulate with king span for example, you may need to put a damp seal onto the wall that doesn't smooth the block work structure, the render etc will then stick to the blockwork by interlocking the non-flat structure.
If you keep the wall outside face 10cm from the edge of the slab (what you're 'meant' todo according to a builder) then that shouldn't be so much of a problem.
Also that clay pile at the top - a 45 slope from the ground level that means that soil is only being held up by the roots. so be careful.14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

ah covid thats all you need, hope it does not knock you off your feet too badly mate.... weather looking good for at least another 10 days but staying chilly... if it were me i would shore that wall up Bob somehow looks dangerous to me mate...... have you finished with the bobcat? even if you lean the bobcat bucket tight at the top of the wall with a long wooden plank sandwiched between something is better than nothing....digging with your back turned if that went over well its not worth thinking about.....as you say the ground is saturated too...

Hi Ken, sorry to hear youve not been well, hope you’re on the mend. Hope your team is still fibreglassing? I’ll drop you a text. Wouldn’t want to go elsewhere. Looking to fibreglass first week in April, also some advice re the PVCU tunnel between old and new ponds
groundwater fairly simple with the digger on-site, I’ve dug a 8 ft deep sump with a pump in, using my patented green Bin with holes, taken all the water away straight away, I’ll then backfill with gravel around the outside for the bottom 400 mil or so, I’ll just leave it in then as with other pond pumps year round.Fibreglassed/5000 gals/4.5 m Tunnel/Spindrifter/Twin drums/Bio chambers/Beads/Showers/Remora ASHP

Cover the top of the bottom drain with plastic and gorilla tape it. Fill the bottom of the drain with water to stop it floating.
Does the BD have concrete under it? If not you may find that the soil gives way and the plastic pops out of the bottom when the pond is full of water.
Look forward to the concrete photos14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

nik yes all done remember I’ve done this before! 5 metres to the left…Same with the groundwater, no issues the sump will take away all the water as it did on the other one, there will be a drain around the outside of the slab to the sump, no way water can gather and all backfilled with gravel. The one on the other pond pumps water year round it’s like a well!..

So good day, clear LF test but still feel shit, suppose I should be resting really :-) Anyway concrete in! Two guys barrowed much quicker than I could level lol. One of them had a koi pond, with a nexus, and a tunnel lol! Superb service https://www.googleadservices.com/pag...0YQ0Qx6BAgDEAE if anyone after concrete Greater Manchester area.
So 2.5 metres C35, just needs a fettle smooth over later this evening, digger hire extended, think I’ll tackle the Somme tomorrow give it a chance to go off a little.

Reasonably rapid progess, slowed a little by the fact my right hand man is back at Uni. Moving blocks, mixing and laying wasn’t in the plan! :-( Pic updates later

Cracked on today, I need to nip out and take some photos. I’ve scaled it back to just over 3000 gallons (as I was going to go bigger) 2.9 x 3.2 x1.55. with the tunnel and the other, that will give a little over 5000 total, I think enough bearing in mind p, heating, filtering and treating it.
So I’m at the height where i need to think window or no window Never really liked them, but I’m wondering if I’ll regret not putting one in . The side facing the lawn would be the obvious choice, however not an area where it would be used for viewing, so I’m thinking the side facing the round pond, as could also then view from the house.Last edited by Spongebob; 21-01-2022 at 10:53 PM.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
