Not sure what the question is??
A bottom drain is better, but plenty of ponds work without it. Why is the bottom drain not possible?

As you are at the planning stage, I really would try and get a bottom drain in if you can. Even if it delays things by a week or so, that delay will be worth it when it's all up and running.
If you have dug the pond out already it's not much more digging to dig a small hole in the middle where the bottom drain will go and a small channel to the side of the pond for the pipe to run along under the pond.
Also I'd recommend installing a skimmer in too, although you can worry about that later once you start building your walls.

If you get an Aerated one that will also mean you don't need to run a hose into your pond for an air stone.
I find the uplift from the rising bubbles helps sweep the crud on the bottom of the pond towards the bottom drain, so it serves 2 purposes.

Hi
It will defeat the reason we go gravity fed as the muck goes into the filter whole on a gravity and settles out - if you pump fed from the bottom drain you will be chopping all the muck up making it harder for the filters to collect all the very fine bits chopped up by the pump
