    Pond Window Advice

    Hello all,

My window was delivered today and before I install it, I just wanted to get some better educated opinions about what I’ve brought.

    Dimensions: 990mm x 590mm x 25.5mm

Made up of 2 x 12mm toughened clear panes and a 1.5mm clear inter layer.

The biggest question is whether it will be suitably strong enough for my sleeper pond?

    Pond size is 2.7m x 2.2m x 1.1m so 6,500 litres approx.

The window will be 100mm below the surface and 410mm from the base of the pond.

Any thoughts/advice/reassurancePond Window Advice welcomed Pond Window Advice

    Hi.

Yeah that will be fine in terms of the glass spec.

My window is 2m X 0.7m and is the same thickness.

How much of a rebate have you created for the edges of the glass to sit against? That's where there will be maximum force on your pond walls, so make sure there's enough and that they are strong enough to take the force.

I think the rebate on mine is about 7cm, which seems good enough. Although mine is block built rather than sleeper built.

my image hosting service is playing up at the minute,
but you can see the window going in from 6.22 minutes in here.

Phew! Thanks for that, it’s my first window so I’m nervous.

I’m still figuring out the rebate but I’m leaning towards a steel rebate of at least 75mm so that sounds like it will do the trick.

    Thanks for the help.

I was nervous putting mine in too.

The weight of the glass certainly makes it more tricky. I'd recommend having a spare pair of hands (or two) to hold it while you get the sealant in.

the weight of your window shouldn't be too bad mine was 40kg so your at 2/3rds the size should be about 28kg?
awkward to lift so definately 2 needed.

me and my lad fitted my window.
i didn't struggle, but he did lol!

    Things you want on hand:
    * clean area so you can clean and manoeuvre it in
    * sealant/adhesive
    * shims - if you have any uneven spaces or use as spacers. UPVC sheet cut up will do.
    * suckers to hold and manoeuvre the glass
    * ladder to act to pull the window towards the shims with the suckers.
    * people to 2130x715mm window as 3xlaminate 33mm thick is 115Kg.

My window arrives tomorrow. The hardest part is arranging the manpower to be onsite when you only know the day of delivery up until ~4pm the day before at which point you know the rough time "late afternoon" which is approximately 3-5pm.. Given the manpower has to drive 1.5 hours to get here..

    Anyways.. should be fun..

Yeah I thought it would be heavier than it is, mine is 36kg (which I’m glad ofPond Window Advice)

I brought the same suction lifters the other day, just a case of getting out there and fitting it now but need better weather.

    Yours looks great.

What sealant/adhesive would you recommend? I can get my hands on loads of MS55 (used for automotive windows) but not sure if that would do the job.

Wow, your window sounds like it’s going to be fun to install. Should look great though!

    Thanks

Those are auto-marine sealants/adhesive. I went for a 12 pack of the polyurethane. Both the polyurethane and MS290 are pond safe. I suspect I may actually need more to finish the install but the 12 pack should get the majority of the install done.

Get some isopropyl alcohol to clean the glass (or lens wipes) and the suckers before you use them. Press them hard into the glass then cam the lock on.

Just finished mine.. 115Kg of glass. three people and it's done.

I’ve ordered the 12 pack today, thanks for recommending!

I just need to sort the rebate out now and then hopefully I can install mine at the weekend!

If I don't post tomorrow.. you know I didn't manage to get out of bed. Back was strained getting the window out of the truck.. but seems to have eased a little with the fitting. True test is in the morning!
