Thread: please help!

    please help!

I have a pond with a bottom drain whcih leads to a filter box then uv, then (just recently a shower filter then back to the pond. In the past I have had problems with the filter box draining too quickly and sometimes the flow ceases or slows. Its all been good for a while except it completley stopped so I change the fuse in the pump and then when that didnt work, decided pump was knackered and went to get another. i have connected this up and this doesnt work either!

i have bought an oase eco plus 10000 aqua max and have connected the poxy thing three times as there is no clear instruction as to whcih is the in and whcih is the out, however whcihever way i connect it it doesnt work. i cant belive a brand new pump is faulty so it must be the pond set up? The filetr box is full so it should at least empty that out when switched on I would have thought. Does anyone have any ideas as to what i can try next?

    Thanks

    Julie

your really unlucky if new pump does not work. plug it into another socket and just hold below water level and be prepared to get wet.
as for inlet/oulet if pump is sat on the floor oulet is normally pointing to the sky inlet is on the side and is useally covered by a cage.
could always sit it in a large bucket or sink or bath then turn it on.

Yep, try the pump in another socket - an extension lead from the house or something. Alternatively, plug a lamp or something that you can instantly tell is or isn't working into the socket you use for the pump.

Does sound like a power issue.

thanks all, its not power as the pump has a "buzz" so its trying to work-I did plug into a socket that was definately working and it did the same, ie buzz. I have looked at the instructions for the pump (such as they are) which is just an newer version of what was there, and I cant see if I have missed anything (no switches or anything to flick)...

stuck the pump in a bucket and its working (I'll bet the old one is too) it just wont go around the system as it were, there must be a blockage somwhere..I have a reducing valve going to take that apart and see if its blocked, although not sure why it would be

Sounds like a blockage in the system then - perhaps in the outlet after the pump if the filter is filling.

    Hope you find it

no blockages anywhere have disconected UV pipes and tested with the pump running but it just doesnt seem to make it through the final journey. New pump leaks as I can seem to tighten enough and after finding out original pump works have tried to reconnect and now this leaks never did before so i cant run it either_ I also can undo some of the fitments on new pump my hands hurt, I have a rubber spanner thing and even thats not helping. So no filtration running at all -Pond also seem to be losing more water than it should from leaking curly pipe so I have turned off all water to it and am now looking to see if it goes down any further. Two days on this and lots of money and i am now at a loss how to proceed. Going away on Thursday as well, so fed up my poor fish!

bit far from dear old wakey. did the new pump come with O rings or rubber seals to fit inside the fish tails. wont seal fully without one or the other. other than that it's one step at a time disconnect pipe at furthest point away from pump turn on pump whats pressure like if ok move on down the line is the filter blocking up holding water volume back.

Is the pump leaking from the screw thread of the joint ? If so , you`ll need to unscrew the fitting , and put some PTFE tape on the screw thread of the pump . A decent pair of rubber gloves will help you get a good grip on it . If you cant undo it , get yourself an adjustable wrench , like this

Thanks for that, being a numpty I did it the wrong way around! worked from the pump end outwards, so that's a lesson learned!

I have got one of those! but the bits I cant undo (the blue and black large wheels) are too big for it, I think I may have knackered the thread on one tightening it up with my rubber spanner thing...argghh...its does beggar belief that a pump over 400 doesnt have enough rubber washers..I think they think it only to be used in the pond so the second one doesnt matter...off to get the tape now..

If you can post a photo of the bits you`re trying to undo someone might be able to suggest something .
