    Jump guard balustrades

    Hi,

I see a lot of perspex/glass jump guards supported by neat looking stainless steel balustrades. Where do people get these balustrades from? I searched old threads and only managed to find an expired ebay link.

Also I am interested in peoples opinion's on what is the best thickness perspex to get. If you have jump guards what thickness do you have and if you did it again would you change to thicker/thinner for any reason?

    Thanks

We started to sell some pond jump guards but had to take a break for a while but back to offering the pond jump guards again if anyone is interested. I think this time ill just list them on eBay as easier to manage and see when people order or have questions.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114793503678 for now just going to offer to type that being round post or square post options with flat end caps.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/QmJkSp0tX_I?rel=0 video showing our standard post how how they go together. sorry not great quality as was making the video while holding the phone

For the corner posts are they all at 90 degrees, I have a curved front to my pond and ideally they could do to be at a slightly larger angle.
If not I guess the rubber would allow a slight angle.
    (Yes I'm fussy) !

We do another style of post that has a different type of glass clamp that will let you select just about any angle.

    Hi,
Delivery at this time is around 7 to 10 days

I also need unusual angles so might have a look at these.

I would rather avoid posts though if possible as I came across this thread https://www.koiforum.uk/pond-constru...r-pond-10.html (halfway down page 10) This is perspex just held by small clips at the bottom. I find it hard to believe that this would be secure enough so I am going to buy 2 clips and a sample piece of perspex to see how viable this is and how spaced the clips need to be. When you start pricing everything up it gets quite costly so I want to make sure I am happy before ordering the perspex. I will update this thread when I get my sample up and running.

That does look OK. My only worry would be how secure it would be if there are and children around. The glass clamps are cheap enough to be fair they are about £10 each and if you used acrylic rather than toughened glass it might be OK. Downside to acrylic is it's easy to scratch.

    Regards,
    Andy

Yes I did - managed to finish it all on the bank holiday weekend. It works well. I plan to write a detailed post with pictures when I get chance in the next few days.

So I got my jump guards up and running and it worked well and looks significantly better than the net I had previously!

I used 8mm Acrylic which I got from simply plastics https://www.simplyplastics.com/catal...-24/c-83/p-203

I went 180mm high as I felt this was a good balance between not looking over the top but still being likely to keep the fish in. I think if the fish were to leave the pond at the right point and get their angle of trajectory right then they might still be able to get out but this is a risk I was prepared to take.

I asked for 15mm corner radius to be cut in the plastic to try and make it look a bit better

The longest single piece is 2.80m which stretches over the window. This is held by 4 brackets with the longest gap (over the window) about 1.5m. In the centre of the span you can move the plastic back and forth about 20-30mm. Anywhere near the brackets it is rock solid.

    For the other brackets

    I used these brackets https://www.psglassfittings.co.uk/pr...-to-12-76mm-2/

I understand 316 steel is better for outdoor use so I paid a bit more for this. They are very solid.

To fix it to the coping stones I used these: https://www.diy.com/departments/dial...1584929_BQ.prd

They worked really well and were easy to use. I got through 3 masonry drill bits drilling all 16 holes though.

I placed the brackets 100mm from the end of the plastic and then ever 500-700mm after that. This seems to be more than enough.

Hopefully some pictures will be attached.

Feel free to ask any questions.
