Scratches on pond window
Hi,
I've managed to get scratches on the pond window. They aren't deep but there are quite a few of them in a concentrated area where I was scrubbing with a dish pad! Doh.
Anyone know of the best method to polish out?
Thanks.

This is on the outside face by the way, not the inside.

very minor scratches can be polished out.... but by god it take some graft...
done it once on a windscreen scratch with rotary polisher and wool mop... took about 5 days doing a couple of hours a day with jewellers rouge.
should have just cracked it and had it replaced
you could still see slight distortions in the glass.

You could use anti-scratch resin that they use to repair cracks in windscreens it fills in the scratches and becomes invisible to the naked eye. CD scratch cleaner did the same sort of thing.
I haven’t tried this myself but my other half uses a spray can of plasticoat acrylic to polish up scratches off clear resin models.1kGal BD/Skim RDF/UV/k1 2.3kGal 2windows 2airBD/skim Sieve/Eazypod RDFcombi+bakki 3xVP/UV,ASHP

And scratched with a dish pad? Sure it’s not acrylic?

I wouldn't have thought that a dish pad would scratch glass. They would make a mess of non-stick pans otherwise. Maybe grit got into it? That would certainly scratch glass as I've experienced with fish tanks.

I think it was what I was trying to get off the glass that caused the scratch grains rather than the pad.
Over the winter the calcium of the blockwork/mortar ran down the glass and solidified. It was this I was scrubbing off. Didn't notice the scratches until I looked closely the next day and the sun was reflecting off the glass.

Any ideas as to the best way to polish the scratches out? Tried baking soda, done naff all.
Think I might find out if one of the autoglass places will be able to help or risk making it worse.

Have a look at this video. I'd say you're looking at a specific kit and an electric drill to make any progress with it.
I've done it on car headlights, but they're plastic so much easier.
I wonder if you could get a pro? Risk is that you could make it worse.

I use micromesh sheets on guitar finishes, gradually going up through the varying grits, to remove scratches. It works well. The instructions say that it can be used on glass, although I've not actually tried it.
