DTF's New Pond
So the current intention is a 3.4m x 2.2m x 1.5m sleeper pond made from flat layed 200 x 100 sleepers
set on a 230mm wide x 100mm deep concrete collar, and one course of hollow concrete blocks to lift it up out of the ground and back filled with concrete.
16mm re-bar pinned through the sleepers, 1 in each corner, and 4 more on each long side, with 3 more through each short side.
and 200mm timberlocks for added strength to lock each sleeper in place.
undecided on where to site the filters, next to the pond would be best for cost, but not easy to get at stuff.
in the log cabin/shed is ideal for maintenance and power but gravity water height is low at 400mm-500mm.
plus longer runs both ways for pipework two x 4" in bottom drain and skimmer, and two x 4" out bottom drain purge waste and shower gravity return.
after lots of umming and ahhhing over deciding what type of pipe and valves to use..pressure or waste...
i decided to not get slide valves and pony up for ball lever valves.... three 4" and three 2"
the cost of these made any attempt at saving money using 110mm soil and 50mm waste pointless so it will be pressure pipe all the way....
equipment so far:
1 x QK 25 drum
1 x QK maxi shower with two x 110mm spigot outlets (on order)
JBR bio
EPDM flexseal boots
and an order with coastal koi for the pressure plastic fittings and valves...
i'll get the E class pressure pipe from a local pressure plastic merchant as i can get 3mtr lengths un-cut.
i ordered a 3mtr x 2mtr x 750mm intex pool to use as a temporary home and will re-site the current filters outside to keep it all ticking over.
the pool came via amazon from germany, after a little month long delay in german customs....

Nice one Dave.
Give Gaz Koi a shout about pressure pipe. He was the cheapest for me, and does 3m lengths uncut.

You’ve definitely got the right brand of rubber boots. I will now only buy the genuine Fernco Flexseal ones as all the rest seem to be rubbish. Looking forward to following your build

i found that the DC115 straight couplers are the same price, if not cheaper than some other PVC boots,@ £7.24 each
but adaptors, and bends are more expensive...@ £17.90 for a 4" x 2" reducer and £27.34 for a 4" bend...
but then even, that doesn't work out so expensive when you don't have to replace them very few years....

just had some PVC pressure fittings delivered today....
reminds me of when i had my last PVC fittings delivered for my reef tank...
...not quite on the same scale though with 40mm ball valves verses 4" ball valves......

The next step...
set up the 300cm x 200cm x 75cm intex pool today,
which went smoother than i thought it would, it only took a few minutes to put together... really easy....

i'm aiming for the 'day of mayhem' this week...
...the day the all fish, all the water, and all the filters get transferred across to the intex pool and set back up again...needs to be done in a day maximum.
just getting all the adaptors and connectors, pumps, thermalite blocks to temporarily rise the filters up to the right height.
and everything ready to go... 'D Day' should be thursday/friday if i get everything i need.
