Just a quick question, are you going to put the rebar through the concrete base too?

yes and resin fixed in. probably short pieces into the bottom sleeper. then the rest drilled down from the top with a 600mm auger bit, and hammered into the base sleeper.
12mm rebar on 3 of the sides should be sufficent as the sleepers are flat layed the 200mm edge should resist the force of water from bowing them over time.
and 20mm rebar on the side with the window, plus structural steel supports to hold the upper corners at 90 degrees.

Looks really neat Dave, nice job. Although you might want to sort that block at the far end that’s the wrong way up.

i did think about dry stacking them, as they are only supporting sleepers.
but for the sake of a bit of cement i may as well do it properly, before back filling with rebar and concrete.
i've only stacked them there as i've nowhere else to put them...
200mm wide 8"ish?, to match the sleepers width.

It may have taken some time Dave but cleaning them edges and filling voids like you have will make a lot of difference to the finish, especially with the box liner mate, nice job buddy

cheers,
i'll also be using 2" celotex insulation on the sides, so that should help give me a nice flat surface for the liner.
i haven't decided how to finish the bottom yet, as i will be giving the pond a slight 50-100mm bench down to the BD,
and want something that won't go all mushy when wet.

done the sand blinding before,
but with ground water pushing up under the liner, can go slushy if you have to get in the pond after filling, leaving big footprint indents
i'm thinking of maybe hoggin or some other gravel based binder, type 1 is a bit coarse with big sharp stones in.
and then cover with tough hdpe sheeting, or even some rubber matting/vinyl flooring to prevent stones piercing through.
like this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Smooth-Rubb...8&s=diy&sr=1-6
before a couple of layers of 250 gsm underlay.
i did think of 25mm celotex, but that doesn't fare well being walked on either...
and i'm not too bothered about insulating the bottom.Last edited by davethefish1; 22-06-2021 at 10:00 AM.

Get some concrete and reinforcing mesh in there Dave, and make the depth up with another row of sleepers.
