Thanks for that, I'm starting my build soon and will be using the same hollow concrete blocks but was unsure about what size rebar to use.

Had the spindrifter dome from my previous pond build, cannot buy the bottom drain separately without a big cost so I have taken a standard bottom drain and added the airline connector, was going to complete install this weekend but weather had other ideas, next weekend it is then

how did you connect the 1" socket to the standard bottom drain?
i'm not sure solvent cement is going to be strong enough due to the thickness of the side wall material as solvent cement when cured is still relatively flexible?

heat welding would be stronger, or at least set the whole thing in concrete to support the connection...

Drilled hole and solvent welded a connector, yes, setting in concrete and also will use a sealant to to both sides, its absolutely solid and I also managed to make the hole very tight, no movement at all.

tensol 12 would have made a stronger edge joint, but if its absolutely solid should work fine.
hopefully that will sort it then mate

I don't like air bottom drains, but when considering them I was never going to pay spin drifter rip off money either. My plan was to use a 1inch bulkhead connector to replace the flange where the upright pipe for the dome connects. Right in the centre of the bottom of the drain. No need for all the PVC to barb fittings then as all the whole centre pipe holding the dome on would be carrying the air and the bulkhead fitting would have plenty of purchase on the flat base of the bottom drain.

Great looking build, looking forward to seeing it progress now the weathers slowly improving. Fascinated by you self build drum filter, can’t wait to see it running.
