Thread: Drum filter

  1. #1

    Drum filter

Has anyone heard of or used a drum filter made by aqua exclusive, its a company in the Netherlands. I have a small pond of about 4000 litres and there drum filters looks good but i know nothing about reliability or build issues with the filter, im hoping someone here has tried it and can shed some light on it. Heres a link to the drum filter

    Looks like another one rebranded.
Have you looked at the Draco ones?
At least you won’t have any issues getting bits of something breaks.

Thanks for the suggestion. Ive just had a look at them. They dont seem to have as many benefits as the aqua exclusive one, like a uv, pressure rinse pump and also the water pumps connect to the controller so will cut them off if low water, im just unsure of quality and reliability

Reckon that’s a Filtreau or AEM drum tbh. Give Gazkoi a message and he’ll give you the spec of the Filtreau

I have a filtreau HF30 and that looks exactly the same but with an added amalgam uv fitted.

Ive looked at the filtreau bit cant find much information on it. Are you able to connect the water pumps into the control unit so they turn off if water levels drop? Are you happy with the filtreau hf30?

Gaz has been advising me on Filtreau and Oase drums. He's the man.

I run two Filtreau HF30’s and have been really pleased with them, incredible value. The Oase us I’m sure excellent but I couldn’t justify the spend at that level especially as I needed two because of the size of my pond

Good luck, hope you get sorted, they seem to get good reviews. There are a few you tube reviews to look at.

    Hi costa,
    I have a hf 30.
I’ve been running it for 18 months
I haven’t had any major problems with mine.
Setting up the water level sensor can be a bit fiddly.
Yes the control module works to switch off the pumps and drum motor.
I would recommend good drainage and the opportunity to top up the water as the drum can get through quite a bit of water especially in the summer months
    Cheers

thanks for the advice, glad to hear it hasnt given you any issues. I will set up to drain directly to sewage so shouldnt have any issues there. Do you have the additional pressure rinse pump and if you do, is it supplied my mains or the clean side of the filter? Also do you have an auto top up system to replace the lost water after the rinse cycle?

Whilst we are talking filtreau drums, I’ve got the mini with the separate filtreau bio unit, I’ve got 75 litres of k1 boiling away nicely, has anyone put more than 75 litres of media in the bio. I’ve read it’s 190 litres and capable of 100 litres of K1 or helix. Thanks in advance

    Hi Costa,
Yes I have the rinse pump fed from the clean side.
I run two pumps off the main drum outlet at 20k which seems to work well and as advised elsewhere is below the max stated by the manufacturer. I don’t have the amalgam uv - I have an in-line 55w.
I don’t have an auto top up but manually top the pond up. Once per week during winter months 2-3 times per week in the summer months.
My pond is quite far away from the water source and I wished I had put in the facility for an auto top up.
It’s something I may do at some point in the future.
My pond is about 9500k litres I think I read on the other post yours is 4000k.
So I think you will need to top up more often as mine can cope with the drop in the water level.
Will you be gravity or pump fed?

    Steve
I read somewhere on another post that you can use 60% of the total capacity of the moving bed for media and still get a decent boil.
Can’t concur that for myself though.

    Cheers
    Ady

Yes it is gravity fed, will have one inlet from b/d and one from the skimmer. I also have a 30w inline uv. Yes my pond is only 4000 litres so even small water losses i notice it in the pond. As im going to be doing a lot of work in the garden i will add a water supply so that hopefully i can have an auto top up so i hopefully leave the filter to do its thing without me having to worry about it too much.

Hi Ady, you are correct about the 60% ratio for bio capacity to media, on a hands on approach I’ve just added 25 litres to my bio making it 75 litres and it’s boiling away like mad, I’ve used my spare 80 litre air pump and recon if I PP the next 25 litres it will boil straight away. That would give me 100 litres of bio with 14 litres spare to give it wriggle room. Just an update on the new K+ I did not Pp it but added some ea filter start and after a day it boiled lovely. After a quick de swarff. Not sure how your supposed to de swarff correctly and completely but I tried and it’s looking ok.
    Thanks

Hi Koiforum…. Is there anyone who has experience in connecting direct water connection to the cleaning pump instead of via drum filter. I am a little tired of the water level in my pool falling about 5 cm a day
