    Turnover

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me how I can determine how much of my pond I am turning over in an hour, is it guesswork based on variables, i.e. pump speed and size of pipework etc. or is there a way I can measure it easily?

    Thanks.

Only 2 ways to measure really, most accurate would be an in-line flow meter (these are expensive). Or if you have a filter return you can collect in a bucket and time, then you can do it that way. Most people setups make the bucket test pretty impossible to carry out.

These are the kind of flow meters I mean https://absolute-koi.com/cat1432.html

Most people make a rough and ready calculation based on the pumps advertised performance at the percentage power it is running, less and estimate of head height and pipe and bend resistance. It’s often much lower than people initially think.
