    Fibreglass top coat issue?

    Hi all,

I just noticed that the floor of my fibreglassed pond has white stains/faded as you can see in the pictures.

The water level doesn't seem to be dropping but just wondered if it is, or would be a problem in the future?

    Thanks

    Any issues with your fish?
I would be a bit concerned as styrene poisoning is a very serious issue if the top coat never set properly.

I had the same issue when i did mine last year. I was so torn about what to do. Leave it as is or redo it.

In the end I left it and it's been fine. Its weird as it only showed up when submerged. I lowered the water level and the patches looked black again. But obviously I can't guarantee it will be ok for you, especially as Feline said, styrene leaking into the pond water is pretty lethal.

After a while the biofilm and algae grew over the pond walls so I can't see it anymore.

I never found out why it happened, but suspect it was the wax that rises to the surface, which helps the gelcoat underneath to cure.

I'm sure someone who knows their stuff can advise.

Yeah it doesn't seem to effect the water level, plus there was a pipe which was leaking slightly and turned a little of the wall white - a little like limescale. However, would appreciate if anybody who knows more can advise.

    Many thanks

It's called under curing and can happen of many reasons. As long as it wasnt tacky before the it was filled it will be fine.

    Regards Mark
