Expanding foam.
Hi Koi lovers. A quick question I would like answered asap please as I'm working on my pond build. Can I use expanding foam to fill a large hole (2ft L x 1ft H x 6" deep) in my bug out pond before I fit the underlay and liner. I'm worried the foam may collapse through pressure after I fill the pond.
Thanks in advance.
Atb, Steve.

Not sure I’d want to try and fill a hole that size in the bottom of the pond myself, think it’s ok for small ones but that’s concrete territory for me I think, just a guess as I don’t know but if it was me I wouldn’t

Any picture please?
Sounds like a cement/concrete jobby as said above.

What construction method are you using for the pond base?
Why not just fill the hole with soil / rubble etc. ?2016 new 6000 gallon pond

If that’s where it is then so long as you fill it with something that won’t compress or biodegrade, and will stay put until the water pressure is there to hold it in place, it doesn’t matter what.
Expanding foam can soak up water so I’m not sure it’s necessarily the best thing to use in an outdoor wet location like that?
Personally I would just fill it up with some stiff mortar mix.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

Have you got any rebar or mesh around? Ideally attach that into the bottom of your little cave, give the mortar something to stick too. And just fill her up, throw some clean rocks in with the mix as you press it in, save you having to makes loads of mix. Plus hold it together.
If it doesn't hold its shape then just do half in morning then the other half in the evening. Or overnight etc, to give the first level a chance to set.

Thanks everyone. I've got some postcrete spare so I'll use that.
