I am thinking feline was suggesting testing the source water (tap) phosphate levels as they could be high.

Good progress on the filter room. Not sure if I missed it but what was the plan for the roof on the filter room?

Thanks Mike - I am not sure if I wrote on here either... I make it up as I go along

Quite a bit of stuff is now here to progress it

I purchased a couple of large sheets of Polycarbonate, 25mm Bronze 7 wall, that is here ready to install, once the rails arrive (should be tomorrow)

I have also today received my V-grooved T&G 150 x 25 Larch for the visible ends of the filter room, and 18mm OSB-3 that I am going to board the whole back with adjacent to the hedge. - The T&G and OSB will both be insulated with 50mm Celotex to help keep it a tad warmer (I Hope)

The toughened glass arrived yesterday and the stainless steel spigots came on Tuesday for the jump guards

I also have more steel here for the 3 supporting poles for the sail I am going to cover the pond with, these need sanding, priming and then several coats of protection before I can dig these into the ground

But the big hold up is the sail - I have terrible problems with Herons here so the marquee needs to stay up until it is covered, my first sail arrived and it was too small, so I have had to order a custom size which will be at least another 3 weeks

The roof cant go on the filter room until the marquee is down... so hoping for another month of average weather so it holds up still

So... should I be adding something to lower the Phosphate or should the bio assist that once it is going strong ??

Although I have always had problems with blanket.weed maybe this has always been the starting of the problem.

I never had Phosphate test in the test kits I had until I changed recently to this one.

I am hoping my seneye is accurate as Ammonia is very slowly going down from a 0.162 peak now down to 0.148, not a huge drop but it is a steady drop, PH on the Seneye is showing as 7.45 which is a small decrease over the last couple of days too

Pond temperature is now down to 8.4

So many parameters to follow hey

Hi mate I check tap water feed every month. On all parameters. My kh has always been 13 drops to change colour on api test kit. For 20 years.
Since pandemic it is now 7. So nearly halved.
From the tap. The water board have altered this. So just goes to show. It's worth checking parameters at tap sauce. As feline and mike have said. Good to hear your parameters are slowly coming down.
Pond looks great mate. Good on you lol.
    Nice fish in the window.

    Cheers Fred

Guess I have been missing that for years then, Looking back at my records I have only checked tap water 3 times in 2020 albeit it is when I do a big water change or something drastic...

I will add that to my regime, and do monthly like you suggest

I need to change to a big blue system too soon as still only have my EA filter... although my budget keeps getting nuked each month when I plan what I need to buy (Read: Want to get rather than need ) I may put that off until December, will give me time for more research into auto-top-up or trickle in/out

So another QUICK update from the weekend...

    • Timber for ends of kit room received, done a good coat of stain all round - Some lovely Larch V-T&G I had made up
    • 2 thick coats of Red Oxide primer onto the posts that are hopefully hold my sun shade/sail
    • Jump Guards installed
    • all media finally in the large bio and tumbling VERY nicely, even getting a tad of colour already
    • A big tidy up of crap from the area
    • Starting tinkering with some lights etc...

I will add photos later tonight once they have uploaded

    Great updates @dbs.

What big blue filter are you considering? I'm ready to plumb in my auto top up, so need to consider this and haven't researched anything yet, looking for a leg up to save me some time if you've looked into it?

    Cheers
    Barry

Thanks Barry, unfortunately I have not looked into them properly yet, so bad news for you, and also for me as another person I can't ask either And so it begins - Going down and building up :)

You are going to need something mammoth to run your pond, something bigger or run a couple in tandem??

There is a comprehensive thread about dechlorinators started by RS2000 here -

    https://www.koiforum.uk/water-treatm...highlight=blue

I have this link on my favourites list -

    https://www.finerfilters.co.uk/finer...p-gac-cto.html

IIRC it's his conclusion from the thread, but it's a valuable read anyway.

I think coastal koi do the best overall deal on a 3 pod 10” jumbo. Think it’s around £95 member price and that’s with fittings and filters to get you going.

I dont know how great the filters are but I comes with 5 micron pre, 2nd chamber GAC and final CTO

I don’t think you will find a better price personally

I just ordered the following from them this morning

20 Inch Triple Stage Water Purifier With 3/8 Tubing

Member price £49.85... can't go wrong at that price assuming it does what it says, cheap enough to change every 6 months!!

Tinkering in evenings... started to play about with lighting, there is a nice gap in the coverboard that I am using as a ridge, a LED fits in there nicely.

A dodgy fitting so awaiting a replacement

Overflow cut into the skimmer... but a tad too high once I fitted the temp pipework, I will be blanking it off and putting one further down on the other side... soon maybe but no rush

My little friend that keeps me company whilst working every weekend !! - very odd, he has even started to let me stroke him

Saturday just gone - THE SAIL - a rough line of where it will cover, hoping I get away with this size...
