Nooooooooooooooooo - Just leaving for a sit visit, checked on the fish and there is one laying on the bottom of the pool, got him out, put in quarantine tank and now having to go out for 6 hours
Quick water test, Nitrite and Ammonia look fine, will have to check him out tonight and do all the other tests

So finally finished work, I best do some scrapes - thankfully my daughter called a guy that is very good with fish, he shot around and thinks it is just it's time to go, looked and felt fine he thought, he check all the other fish over, double checked my water tests, suggested some extra feeds as I have limited them a bit over last couple of weeks due to massively smaller water volume.
I certainly have not seen any odd behaviour lately once they all settled down they have been quite at home in their new pool.... god knows what has happened

Well thankfully, gill and body scrapes look fine to me, no signs of bug life, though very new to this depth of caring for them

Tests carried out before I shot off to work...
My poor fish (sorry a photo taken tonight so left him in quarantine all day so I could check him properly.
And Gills, look okay to me considering when he may have died, they were very red this morning ??
Soooooooo desperate to get the pond finished now, damn it.

Gutted mate I know how that feels. Touch wood I seem to have missed any trouble this year. I do hope we can ease into the new ponds when they are ready to go without too much NPS issues.

Sorry to hear your bad news.
As for NPS that might be more difficult for some to get over than others what with all the extra chlorine being add to the water supply which then if not treated properly could knock back filters etc.

I must admit I am actually dreading starting up my new pond in the spring. I have been Lucky so far, on a knife edge growing on the Remaining 50+ fry from a batch of 100. For the past 2 years Cramped in with my original mixture of 15 koi & Orfe squeezed in together in my small 1000 gallon pond which has matured over the past 4 years
The rest of my fittings finally arrived yesterday for the new pond

so I can start to connect up the filter system1kGal BD/Skim RDF/UV/k1 2.3kGal 2windows 2airBD/skim Sieve/Eazypod RDFcombi+bakki 3xVP/UV,ASHP

Why not just run it as soon as it's finished or at least ready to run and then you can check for leaks etc and make sure any muck in the pipe work is removed before you start maturing the system?

You might be lucky if the weather stays warm for a while you might even get the system to start to mature a bit before the winter? Plus if you are going to get any leaks they can be dealt with before the spring as sometimes they can take a couple of weeks or so to show up.

Thats what I aim to do , it will take me some time to build the concrete floor & drains for the Drum/bio combi & sieve to be at the correct levels then fit al the pipework, valves & pumps to include future additional heater & aquaponics in the system. Then build the “shed” on the brick base around all the filter equipment.
Then the aim is to have the pond running over the winter checking as I go that everything is working then start a fishless cycle, I already have An extra 70ltr of media maturing in the smaller ponds system added recently1kGal BD/Skim RDF/UV/k1 2.3kGal 2windows 2airBD/skim Sieve/Eazypod RDFcombi+bakki 3xVP/UV,ASHP

Sounds like a good plan Mike.
Another idea is if you run it over the winter that is going to be the time when something is going to go tits up and you can get it sorted without having to move fish out etc

Yep that’s the plan. The other half is making some resin koi to put inside a flower & pond scene all in resin that will be positioned Into the stone arch window ( in the middle of photo) above the blade on the wall dividing the pond from the filter room.475FF8FD-A2E9-4D12-9FA9-F03FFBA951E7.jpg
