The blocks on their back is extra extra safe, provided you can afford it. Other than that it's just the time to lay the extra 100% of courses.

I'd have thought the blade centre at one width end and the skimmer centre the opposite width end, would work?

I'd mainly look at the corners for dead spots too. Factor in possible air lines or returns me thinks.

For a change I decided to not go for the quicker option, which is unusual

I have windows on 3 walls which really messes things up so going to do a quick thread on it.

Cheers Fred, I am still thinking of BIG infills on the corners to create 4 corner shelves... maybe

I think you've done the right thing with laying them on their sides like that. You've made them as strong as possible so that's more peace of mind in the future.

I think you should just keep it as simple as possible to help with the water circulation so just keep the infills as small as possible?

Basically think about how you are going to waterproof the pond be it fibre glass or liner etc. The less bends and corners etc the easier and cheaper it should be to do?

They don’t stay black for long after it has matured you will have a bio coating & the fish do see the sides but sometimes can bump into the sides when feeding and jostling for position.

Thanks Mike, that is reassuring to know, though if i feather out the corners they wouldn't bump into them anyway, but it did still make me think And so it begins - Going down and building up :)

I managed to do another couple or rows o the back wall block work tonight, i started a bit late so hope to do better tomorrow... though these evening stints on Brockworth take longer to get ready and clean up than it does to do the work And so it begins - Going down and building up :)

I wouldn't worry too much about edges and bumping ha ha, their lateral line and eye sight will sort that for them, given they don't normally have crystal clear water either.

Unless you're having sturgeon? Then corners should be avoided but not paramount.

The shelves and infills are a good idea, gives character and options for features. Just gotta factor the differences in water movement.

Well water lilies grow in up to about 6ft of water so could sit on the bottom of most ponds but just be wary as the roots take over and the Koi can uproot them and eat them too so you could be left with a few stalks and a mess on the bottom of the pond once the Koi get a bit bigger. I've still got the gravel on the bottom of my pond and the lily was removed a few years ago now. So either a rethink on the lily or a decent thing to plant it in allowing for a few years growth?

You often find with threads like these you get more questions than answers if you know what I mean?

I always read this a lot, but my 'old' pond that I have just taken out had several in for years, and my fish never root them up, I have a LARGE one in the temporary pond at the moment and they are always bobbing around in it

Maybe your fish were being fed more than mine were so had less interest in the lilies LOL

As my pond surface water level drops after a full filter system clean the top 6" keep changing colour as it gets exposed to more direct sunlight and then gets submerged again so I get an odd thick line round the side of the pond where the blanket weed doesn't always grow.

What I meant was with with different people you'll get different answers which basically gives more questions to answer although you do tend to find everyone agrees with the basics though.
