New koi Pond
Yeah.. looking to put another return 1/3 down the pond for winter filtration.. fish will lower and hibernate so don’t want to put pressure on them.. feed that pre filter and use some valves. So 2 I coming into the RDF. Won’t use the higher return until temp drops

So I close the valves on the upper returns and shut down the skimmer, not the other way round.
Of course if you are going to cover it's irrelevant.

Hi jampot... I was always told to shut down all of the BD.. ponds below 4 ft will be at their warmest in the winter... keep you filters working but have a return and jet around 12 inches from the top so you are only circulating the top of the pond.. also stops the pond potential freezing which the fish need so they can vent off carbon dioxide

This looks like it is going to be a good build, I like the amount of thought you have put into this and letting us know how and why you are choosing your spec, looking forward to the next instalment !!

You clear the rubble and mess and then you break ground.. should have known 12” down I’m in clay and stone...

I had the same but had a digger in which cleared it apart from one stinking great boulder which seemed to be holding the house up so moved the pond back a few feet! On the upside it’ll be hard solid ground when you put the base down and hopefully won’t have a water table problem
