    Skimmer need a separate uv?

    Hi everyone

I’m in the final stages of my pond plan Which will be 2500g, was planning on running a 4 inch bottom drain to nexus 320 then returning via a 55w uv split between 3 returns in separate corners.
I was also planning installing a skimmer with a 2 inch outlet on a separate pump and returning through a bakki shower. Will I need an additional uv light for this run? Or should the 55w uv be sufficient enough for the main filtration system. Don’t really want to add to monthly cost if I don’t need to?

    Thanks For your time

    Hi Alec,
The amount of UV you require can vary from pond to pond depending on location and amount of nitrate produced.
I have a 55w UV on my 2000 gallon pond and that is more than enough combined with a drum and a nexus 200.
My recommendation would be to stick with just the 55w and see how it does before spending more money on something you may not need?
    Cheers

I would say 55w is fine for your size pond, providing you optimise the flow rate according to the manufacturers recommendation. I have a 55w on my 4000 gallon pond and waters still clear as a bell. Full sun for most of the day, but I do change the bulb each April. Cheers

Yes, I run a 55 on a 4500 gallon pond and haven’t had any uv on the pond since last year.

You will need some filtration between your skimmer and bakki shower coz it will get full of muck if you dont.
