Delighted to report that the fix seems to have worked and the leak is no more!

I also got the pebble dashing done this morning. It's a very neat job and matches the rest of the house perfectly so we're chuffed.

I've added ST to dechlorinate and plan to add a couple of goldfish tomorrow followed by the remainder of the fish during the week.

As I mentioned earlier, I'll keep using my pressure filter over the winter and add a combi drum in the spring. I've 1 koi and 9 goldfish so they'll be fine.

The finances need a well earned breather.

Fish all safely in the pond during the week and have settled in well.

Got the skimmer and overflow pipework done yesterday. Now for some serious backfilling.

Back at it full swing now after the winter. Between putting my back out before Christmas and the weather, there wasn't much progress.

Instead of typing endlessly, I decided to do a GadgetBazza type walkaround as an update.

Combi drum install is next. It's due to arrive next week.

Been a bit quiet of late, but lots of work going on. The filter arrived last week and was installed over the last few days. The pipework was a bit of a puzzle to get plumbed correctly into the shed and lined up. I had an experienced friend to help me and everything worked out well and we got it up and running today.

    20210318_161429345_iOS.jpg20210331_132202661_iOS.jpg20210402_175958964_iOS.jpg

I went for a DVS CL35 combi filter. I decided to order from Germany as, being based in Ireland, it wasn't clear if duty would apply if I ordered from the UK. Much the same price wise, but less complicated.

The first problem was that my 80w Amalgam UV was too long to go across the filter if drilled into the side. Another option was to stand it vertically in the dirty side. However, I prefer it under the drum in the clean side as it helps keep the drum clean. The solution was to drill a hole in a 4" rubber cap placed on the moving bed bypass under the drum which worked a treat.

Have also been playing around with air to the moving bed and the spin drifter. I have two pumps - a 75 lpm and a 130 lpm. I initially put the 130 on the moving bed and the 75 on the spin drifter. Both were way too much. The media was moving like crazy and the pond looked like a jacuzzi. I vented some air off using valves which gave me an acceptable amount of air on both, but it meant the pumps were very noisy which I didn't think I could life with. I eventually went for the 130 split to both and that seems to be just right. Besides the jacuzzi effect, the other problem with too much air to a spin drifter is that it tends to push debris away from the skimmer.

I've a bit of adjusting to do, but very happy with progress.
