If you have to do it with some water left in (it’s very difficult to get rid of all of it with a sump pump, pond vac maybe), put some bath towels down on the pond floor to walk on, then you won’t go arse over tit whilst carrying a sheet of glass

It's such a worry when you have issues with new fibreglass, so sorry to hear about yours.
Mine had to be done twice because the first one had tiny pricks on the walls (they say the best test is to lighty run a pair of tights over the surface to see if they snag anywhere as it should be perfectly smooth). I didn't need tights - I could feel it with my hand which meant my koi would feel it with their lips! The other issue was my high water table which caused a small leak in the bottom where water was pushing up through and leaking - and this was in the summer! Anyway, the first fibreglass was rubbed down and new coats applied which were perfect but put my project back by weeks.
However, we know never to leave the pond empty for risk of the bottom lifting.
Earlier this year the pond was drained down whilst I repainted the filter house and we put a new filter system in. We left 2 foot of water in the bottom. Within 2 weeks it was a quagmire! Check out how revolting it was below.
Whenever we totally drain down, hubs and I work very fast to drain, clean, rinse and refill so that there is barely any time between the pond being totally empty and at least 1 foot of water being back in. Seems like your pond will need the same protocol going forwards I'm afraid

I just realised that I'll have to drain it to fit the hats to the bottom drains. I think I'll drain it to put the window in and do the bottom drains at the same. I'll do it as quickly as possible and fill again.
Another unforeseen complication. Hopefully I avoid needing to get the fibreglasser out again as I really need to get my fish out of the temporary pond as the weather has turned colder rather quickly.

Alternatively do what we did when the bottom drain needed attention ... my hubs gets all the fun jobs

For a proper wetsuit in pond experience you need someone pushing you down with a broom. Don’t ask me how I know this

The window finally arrived and was installed on Thursday. It took four of us to lift and get into position. It's 1870mm x 851mm laminated 22.5mm hardened glass and weighed 110 kgs.
Capping stones and pebble dash in the coming week.
I'm still waiting to get the fibreglass sorted. When I emptied the pond to put the glass in, there was water under the floor. I'm pretty sure there is a leak somewhere as I'm well above the water table. The fibreglass guy is due back during the week to hopefully sort it.

Great looking pond build mate.
Glass weighs very heavy - I remember installing mine.
Hopefully you will get the FG sorted quickly and can then get it all up and running.
Cheers

Woah .... that's some size glass! One of my windows is 1800 long but only 600 deep (same thickness). Incredible how much bigger yours look being that bit deeper. Gonna be awesome with loads of noses pushed up against it wagging their tails

Haha - absolutely. My nine literally line up pec to pec - noses pressed to glass - wagging tails furiously. It's hilarious. They really do look like a load of excited puppies. Adorable.
I had Steve from Avenue Koi here earlier in the year for a second opinion on my costia prob, and he commented how incredibly friendly all my fish were as they all swarmed up to greet us even though they were in the Intex at the time! Suspect its cos I hand feed a lot
I do think that windows play a part in building a relationship with koi too. They all spend so much time in them and will follow me from window to window as I walk round the pond. I honestly think they enjoy looking out!

Hopefully the fibreglass was sorted on Friday. Fibreglasser agreed that one of the returns was likely the problem and was leaking with water flowing down under the floor. He redid both returns to be sure. He also wasn't happy with the front bottom drain and redid that as well.
He also stripped and re flow-coated four of the walls (two bottom pond and two top) that we're getting the white haze. He agreed that this was UV damage as it was a sunny day when the pond was originally glassed. It was a similar sunny day on Friday, but he made sure to cover it with a tarp this time.
Holes were also drilled in the floor last week to get the water out. These were also reglassed.
The floor is still raised in one corner. The glasser suggested tacking it down, but that made me nervous as it's close to a bottom drain pipe. I opted to leave it was the water pressure will keep it down.
Next on the list is capping stones and pebble dashing. Hoping to get them done this week, but the weather is looking pretty crap again.

I'm glad you've got the FG sorted but I'm a little uneasy that your chap didn't cover the pond the first time round hence the UV damage. When I was getting quotes to fibreglass I was told by everyone I spoke with that you need to cover the pond, regardless of forecast, as you have to protect against rain and UV. Just no way around it. A cover also helps to keep dust and insects off the FG whilst curing - though you'll still get some! I really hope this is the end of your FG troubles. Fingers crossed

I wasn't happy either. Like you, I did a lot of reading and understood that a cover was a must. I went to the trouble of building a wooden frame and covering it with a tarp. The first thing the fibreglasser did when he arrived was take it down.

That's crazy!!! I get that working under a cover is a really unpleasant job - the fumes from the FG process are horrendous! I couldn't believe that my guys were working without any masks and just breathing it all in. I got a whiff of the fumes once and it sent me into a coughing fit then bought on wheezing, nausea and headache. We developed a routine of passing drinks and food through the tarp after that so I didn't get a lung full again
Was it a properly overcast, dry day when he did it and did he cover it once finished so it cured under cover?
