New pond
Hi I am going to build a koi pond in my back garden and was looking for some advice
i plan on using a nexus 320 and Cetus sieve with a uv and vari pump
I was wondering how this would be piped and am a little confused
the drawing I have seen shows the Cetus connected with a 4inch balance pipe is this correct I thought that all the water would need to go through the Cetus but with the balance pipe connect this would bypass the Cetus or am I just being stupid?
i was also wanting to use an aerated bottom drain but was thinking of putting a valve on the air line so I can turn it off sometimes would this be ok ?
is there anywhere I could get a drawing showing the best way to pipe the system

Hi mate. I have a nexus 320 and ultra sieve 3
Same it's a sieve. 5000 gallons. I was going the same way as you. With a balance line. Then decided to put the drop in draco drum in
The nexus.
I kept the sieve and put this on a seperate line
So I now have two seperate lines.
Line 1 bottom drain gravity fed to drum nexus 320. 30000lph pump vario. To UV.
Back to pond .bakki shower. To pond
Line 2 skimmer gravity to sieve.
15000lph to UV back to pond
I have only just added the shower this spring. Ran it for 4 years with out the shower. And water parameters where spot on.
I ran the nexus with 200 lts of media for
18 months then increased the media to
Over 300lts. Reason it's easier to colonise
The bio mass with less media then the full amount to start with. For NPS .
Here is a picture of a balance line.
2 pumps the one after the sieve. Is hidden
Behind the sieve.
One pump has to have a larger flow then the other one.
If I remember right it's the one after the nexus.
You would gave to find that out to confirm it.
I am running my nexus at 11000lph right now.
And it's great.

Hi,
I had the same thoughts as you when I set up my Cetus and nexus 200, in that not everything goes through the Cetus before going through the nexus if you use the EA recommend balance pipe approach as pictured by Fred.
Also, you are using two pumps to run that system.
So I decided to set up bottom drain direct to Cetus then pump direct to nexus (via a UV) and gravity feed back to the pond. I had a 4 inch return to the pond and the top water line of the nexus was set at 14 inches above the pond level. That meant that all the water from the bottom drain went through the sieve and I only had to use one pump. I had a non return valve after the pump and also ensured the uv was below the pond water line so in case of pump failure there was still water in the system to stop it over heating.
I had a separate sieve on the skimmer line with a different pump and 2 inch return
I have now switched to a drum so run both bottom drain and skimmer to that but still pump feed the nexus from the drum whilst also running an additional pump and return to the pond from the drum as the flow through the nexus is restricted to 10,000 lph
Hope that helps
Cheers
Ady

I looked at this also and went the drum route because I didn’t want to run two pumps.
If had I would have done the same set up as Ady and gone the gravity to sieve and pumped though the nexus.
But then I thought I may as well not bother with the nexus just get a big bio chamber made up, which lead me back to a drum and bio which I decided was best in the end!
allowing me to add other things like a shower later without to much hassle.

thanks for the info Fred
i would prefer to have one line so will probably go with the bypass I think I will do a bit of googling before I decide might change things depending on costs etc
i do like the look of the nexus not sure about the Cetus

If I was starting again. Don t get me wrong.
My setup is still. Spot on. But what it cost for a brand new nexus 320 and ultra sieve.
I would probably go sims route.
With a drum with 2 inlets minimum.
Same with outlet returns. And a bio tank
To shower.
Gives you more scope. To do things.

I have nexus with draco drop in. Don t forget the drop in drum was brought out years after the nexus. So people already had a nexus. And it was a cheaper option then to buying a drum and bio tank.
So you was only paying for the drop in draco.
I have had the draco drop in for nearly five years.
And I have just bought another new one
I have installed the new one.
And keeping the old one as back up. I can honestly say it's the best bit of kit I purchased for my pond

I would nt of thought so. Why would you need auto clean when a draco drop in does it all.
The drum is basically auto. When dirty senser kicks in and cleans.
I have nt a speck of fines in my pond 2 hours after a feed.
Unless the fish have a crap.
