So ive been doing 10% water changes over the past week or so. Cant seem to get the ammonia down past 0.50. Nitrite is 0 and ph 7.4. I added a bio ball to the easy pond last week. Should i down a bigger water change? Many thanks

    Hi Hezza
are you still feeding I would stop or reduce considerably to try and get the ammonia down. Your filters are cycling so only tiny amount of food...

As scamp says. Just a little. If it dont drop
Stop feeding. And do a water change. Ten percent. Your always going to get traces of ammonia. With NPS. Fish let it out when eating. Even when not eating. Once the filters catch up. The ammonia will get eaten up. And turn to nitrite. Then you know its maturing. And then that nitrite will turn to nitrate. Which is what you want to see. Its early days dont worry. It takes time.
It don t happen quickly. You might go a week even 2 weeks before you see a result on parameters dropping. In your case ammonia.
All ponds are different. And mature faster and slower. I told you earlier mine took nearly 2 years. Now I can throw there dinner my dinner. Our lasses dinner in there.
And it's great. Only kidding. I can feed alot
Put it that way. And that's 60 odd fish.
Patience and time lol. That's what it takes.
Look at the positive. You have now learned. About how not to have to many fish in there. And how to feed.

Right so your starting largish. Most people start with tiddlers lol.
Even then they have problems with NPS.
Anyway it don t matter. Your getting the ammonia so it's starting to cycle. Which is good. It shows your filter is doing its job.
The next thing you want to see is your nitrite spiking. Then you know it's really starting to mature. So dont feed and watch it over say 4 days. With a test. And see if it comes down. If not do a water change. And see what happens. If the fish flash or jump. Do one sooner.

I would do it when you do a water change lol. and then it becomes part of your maintance once a week. you could but you may have to do a water change because of your ammonia. if you do it as part of your water change you know exactly what percentage your dumping.

The maturing is in your water and pipes and pond as well. And on your filter media.
It colonise s every where mucker. In the end your pond becomes one big. Bio mass.
Filters give it a speed up. That's when you beat NPS. You have to clean to stop muck build up.
Which bad stuff lives in. Basically your ponds a toilet. If that makes sense. Toxics thrives in toilets.
