    Pump sizing for bead filter

Looking for advice on a eco pump for my aquadyne 4.4 bead filter?
currently running 10200 litres but have plans to raise the pond to 15000 litres
midi sieve off bottom drain just need the best eco pump man enough to build the psi in my bead without swimming pool pump running costs.

hi, im running an Aquadyne 4.4
You filter maybe too big for your pond.
The Aquadyne 4.4 youve got will do a 12000 gallon pond or 54500 litre pond
For a bead filter to work well you will need a powerful pump because to more powerful the pump is the more it will compact the beads
The better the beads are compacted the better clarity of water you will have
The pump im running on my bead is an Artesian 0.5 hp which turns over 9500 gallons per hour
If you run a smaller pump you may get dead spots in the filter and end up with a bacterial time bomb
If your pond cant produce enough muck for the filter to live off you may find the filter will never mature and may keep getting new pond syndrome
where abouts are you as if you are local to me in Dartford, i can show you my set up
5000 Gallon Fibreglassed Pond With 54" x 27" Infinity Window
    BD300 Drum Filter
    Artesian 0.5hp - Aquadyne 4.4c Beadfilter - PS4 Protein Shower
Badu Eco Touch - EP20 UV Sterilizer - ASHP - Venturi
Hi Blo 60 - Medo 45 - Spindrifter Bottom Drain
    Wide Mouthed Skimmer

Hi there and thanks for reply with some great advice.
what if I was to change the media to micro k1?
or shall I look at changing the plan a go for a bio chamber.
surely they will run with a smaller eco pump

A bio chamber would allow you to have a smaller pump and less wattage too.
The main problem with a bead is there is a lot of resistance through the beads whereas a bio chamber is an open chamber
The water entering the bio chamber must be as clean as possible and then you could use something like a sequence or a superfish pump
Are you local to me ?

Bought one of these about a month ago . (20000lph model)

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jebao-TSP...ny4yOVSSPHzmJA

Really impressed with it so far . Ive got it set at around 15000 lph , and its using 90watts . My old Hailea T series ran at 280watts , so a great cost saving . Also like the versatility of the variable speed . You can play around to get the right flow , and also slow it down for the winter ect .
