start of my pond build
So I have started my pond build, first step set up the temporary holding pool for the fish, I used the opportunity for a 50% water change as I still have some ongoing health problems with my koi, the temporary pond will have a greenbox filter, skimmer and airstones, hopefully the fish will only be there for a couple of months, but we will see. The current 4500Ltr pond id now being drained ready to start digging out. The new pond will have a main volume of 10000Ltr and a total of approximately 13000Ltr

Thanks! the only problem is that we are on solid chalk, so the dig is tough going!

The ponds are now all dug out after a long day with a digger and dumper, the closest I can get a grab lorry to the pond site is about 150 Mtrs away. The base is laid for the gravel filter and for the block work on the lily pond.
IMG_20200528_115701.jpg Making sure the huge pile of chalk doesn't roll onto the road
IMG_20200528_151337.jpg Shuttering ready for the concrete
IMG_20200602_132126.jpg The end of a day mixing up and pouring two tons of concrete.
Now we are ready to get on with the brickwork and piping. A bottom drain isn't realistic with the site so there will be two Aquaforce solids handling pumps in the main Koi pond to make sure the circulation is more than the volume of water each hour. There will then be a filter for each pump at the beginning of the 5x1 meter pond (1750Ltr). That will be filled to just below water level with gravel and planted to form both an attractive backdrop as well as a huge natural filter. At the far end the water will in turn go over two blade falls into first a lily pond (2000Ltr), then into the main Koi pond (10,000Ltr) The ponds will be lined with box welded liners to avoid any creases which accumulate dirt.
