My first pond.
It’s going to be a long time till I put any fish in but thought I’d start a diary.
So far I’ve decided where it’s going to go and how big. I’ve got a fair idea of filtration but there’s plenty of time to change my mind yet.
It’s going to the right of the steps and the strainer and skimmer will go to the right of the pond with the row of stones roughly were the filters will finish. Then pumped up into the shed on the right.
And here is the shed that will become my filter house!!
First job today is to clear this out, then I can remove all the rotten timber including roof, door and door frame.
The floor is lower than ground level so I plan to get mains electric and water in at floor level and screed over, maybe with some cellotex under.

I don't envy you tidying the shed out lol
If possible have a look at getting a drain in your filter room as well, insulation is a good idea to stop things from freezing and keeps the noise down
Good luck and as BCC says, keep the pictures coming4600 Gallon Concrete Block and Fiberglass

The Acer had gone wild so I already cut it right back and removed some lower branches. You can see where the grass doesn’t grow in its shade so I think the pond will benefit. I took that photo at end of March and it’s already growing very nicely. I moved another slightly smaller acer from just by the steps to the other side of my garden and will be building a raised bed around it. I was really worried about moving it because it was almost in leaf but that ones doing really well also.

Shed now built up to higher level with reclaimed imperial bricks. Next step will be installing ACO drain at back of shed and screeding floor to new level. I am planning to insulate and board, plus install electrics and water supply soon.

P.S. Any idea why I can only add pictures as thumbnails and not large images?

Just a few more photos of the ongoing build. Filter is still maturing with PP so should be filling with water soon. Still a work in progress but taking shape.
The shed (filter room) has extra courses of reclaimed bricks bringing the roof line up to a nice height. Floor has been rendered with drainage in the back corner.
New raised bed surrounding the existing raised decking. Holes cut for lighting. Bow fronted, wrought iron railings on order to go all round the top level and hand rails for steps down to lower level.
Summer house on the right has completely rotten doors, new UPVC ones on order. Lounge furniture on decking will be moved to the lower patio. 2m x 2m green oak arbor on order for the lowered patio in the far left corner (currently covered in blue tarpaulin.
Cellotex and fiberglassed ready for final coat of black.

Skimmer with bottom removed and adapted to 4” so no basket required. Mouth removed and blocks cut at 45 degrees to create a wide mouth opening.
Slide valve will be used to adjust flow from skimmer to drum.
Drum in place, pumps not installed yet but will be taking water up to home made 150l moving bed bio in brick shed.
First oak sleeper cut to size with stainless blade waterfall installed.
