Thread: Sleeper build

    Sleeper build

Hi everyone.. this is my 1st post and 1st pond.. How would u guys setup filtration on this pond layout?? As u can see I'm limited on space. The pond size is 2ms wide by 3.5/2.4ms long and im aiming for around 1.2-1.5ms deep. Its going to be 600mm above ground using sleepers.. the area at the back is 1.8x2ms and is where my filters will go.. my thoughts were a gravity nexus 220 with 4inch bottom drain?!? But I would quite like to fit a skimmer as well but I'm not sure how to incorporate this!? Any ideas would be much appreciated.. cheers Adam 20200425_194235.jpg

Then built the sleepers.. my bottom drain has been on back order for weeks and fingers crossed will arrive tomorrow.. so my job for the weekend to cement that in place and fit the skimmer on the rear wall

I worked out from mydimensions that roughly my pond will be around 9000 litres. So after alot of research(mainly on here and utube) and a bit of advise from a couple of company's I've opted for the draco drum solum 16 with standard bio, DM various 22000 pump and evolution aqua 55watt uv.

Per diagram I plan to install this at the back of the pond. I've been advised to put in 2 inlets, run 1 through the uv and one directly into the pond from the pump. Is this a good idea or should I maximise the water through the uv? And what sort of height would u drill the inlets through my sleepers? There 200mm high x3 I'm guessing with the skimmer in place the filled the pond level will be around 500/550mm

Cut in returns and started to fit pipework.. next step is to install/connect my draco drum and I'll be ready to fit the liner

Looking good mate! Very tidy. What was that white material you used for underlay? Have seen it before but not sure what it actually is ?

Not sure what make it is. World of water sold it to me. I double layered it to be on the safe side but it seemed pretty tough

Pond looks great, really nice job. Have you got any more images or details on how you fitted the window with the liner? Looking to do something similar with my sleeper build but this part worries me a little!

Basically I cut a rebate in the sleepers and glued the glass in place then glued the liner on to the sleepers and glass with ha6 silicone supplied with the window following the instructions on the aurello website i bought the glass from, I then for my own piece of mind bought a tube of black gold seal and ran a bead overlapping the glass and edge of liner and let that go rock hard for 3 days before filling and so far so good Sleeper build.. I was a bit unsure which way to go as well as alot of people say to trap the liner between the glass and sleepers/rebate but I thought that might pinch and possibly tear the liner over time as the glass is so heavy and the corners etc are sharp

Thanks for the info, I've seen this method a few times and tend to agree with you about pinching the liner between the sleepers, not to mention the creases you would end up with.
