If I had one of the larger units, and I could mix the two media’s, I’d probably have added pond pads. But seeing as the pads are tricky to mature in the smaller unit alongside hel-x, and I’ll be swapping the filter in the middle of summer when the fish are producing the most waste, I’d rather have my bio back up to speed as fast as I can.

As Tom said, that's a cracker. I feel like there was a lot of Kujaku's about a year or so ago but haven't noticed so many recently, same with Ochiba's, although maybe I am looking in the wrong place.

When I was talking to new forest about this years fry they said they were going to be trying a bit harder to breed the kujaku and some other metallics this season so should be a a fair few before long

Ironically, this was imported this time last year as a nisai, alongside a few other kujaku and a load of ochiba, and they have for the most part hung around! There’s been relatively little interest in them compared to the other varieties in the same pond...

Just a word of warning, don’t do what I’ve done. Knowing that the drum is sat at home ready to be installed, but I’m stuck at uni for over a month still is killer HCairns's 7500l Sleeper Build

It’s been a while! 103 days after it was delivered, and the new filter is in!
I needed the eazypod out the way in order to plumb in the drum, so I had to do it all in a day. Stressful, but successful.
I’ve got a lot of neatening up of cables etc, but it’s been running for less than 24 hours and the difference in clarity is night and day!

Whilst I was at it, I swapped the pump out for a new varipump 20000 too, much better!

Once the filter has had some time to mature, I can finally pick up the 2 fish I’ve had at the shop since last year.
I’ve got some mature Oase PondPads from a drum at work to seed the Hel-x. It’s amazing how fast the hel-x fluidises compared to K1. I’ve had k1 float for over a week before fluidising before, but the hel-x is tumbling after 1 night!

I added another 50ltrs to mine a few weeks ago, it went in great compared to the k1+ that seemed to take an age to sink

I had only ever used K1 and K1 micro before, in ponds as well as freshwater and marine aquarium sumps, so expected the hel-x to be very similar, so I’m pleasantly surprised! I’ve got the extra 20l to take the compact-m to full capacity, but I’ll let the filter mature a bit more before I start to add it I think…

Well, it’s been a while since I posted here!
Living away from home at Uni means I’m spending more time watching my pond through a WiFi CCTV camera on my phone than I do in real life, but that came in very handy today!

Lots of rain fell at home last night, and had made it into the weatherproof connection on the vari-pump cable, tripping the whole pond!

The only reason it got caught in time? I looked at the camera and could see the air pump wasn’t running! A phone call to the parents to get them to open up the cable gland and give it a chance to dry out, and hopefully we will be running again this afternoon. At least they have air again now if nothing else.

I can’t recommend a WiFi security camera on the pond enough, especially if you spend any length of time away from home!

I keep watching mine whilst I'm on nights. Unfortunately no one seems to be building it in my absence.
