Just waiting on one final solvent weld join to dry on my inlet, and then I can switch the pump on.

Well earned HCairns's 7500l Sleeper Build

Here’s one of those questions where everyone has a different opinion, so I’ll see what you guys personally think! How long do you leave before fish? Gradually stocking obviously, with small (20-30cm) tosai...

Add right away. To get bio cycle started.
Where the problems start in NPS. Is adding to many fish at start. The trick is a couple to start with and feed sparsely. And build the filters and pond up slowly to maturity.
Takes a lot of patience. Enjoy mate.

    HCairns's 7500l Sleeper Build

Cheers Fred, I’m currently thinking I’ll add this weekend. The electrician case sooner than expected, and as a result I’m filled sooner than expected too!

Because of this, I’m waiting on a few bits still. The system is all running, but waiting until I have them will mean that if I have any problems, I find out before fish go in, not after HCairns's 7500l Sleeper Build

We should have a sweepstake on how long your pond / lake / ocean will take to fill up GB.

    Cheers

Common sense lol. Hard work starts once there in there lol. And exspence. The pond build is the easy bit. Get some filter start of gaz. And test kit. Unless you already have them lol. I was testing parameters every 2 days lol. For 18 months. I had 50 fish in there from day one. Reason my holding vat
Got ripped with a builders Barrow. No choice. They had to go in the pond in a oner.
They had to go in the pond.
The plan was 2 fish every 3 weeks. It was a nightmare for about a year. Learned the hard way. I lost 12 of those fish to NPS. I had them fish for 23 years. It broke my heart. Massive learning curve. Positive out of it was I learned a lot. Ulcer treating.
Sedating. Scraping. Microscopeing. Water parameter s patient s. NPS is the biggest killer of fish in my opinion.
With what I have read on here. And there is not enough said about it.
Enjoy the fish and pond mate.
You have done a great job

Yeah, fortunately I’ve got anything that isn’t pond specific coming out of my ears, including a big storage box full of every test kit under the sun HCairns's 7500l Sleeper Build that’s the benefit of working in a fish store for 4 years and having freshwater, brackish and marine tanks for 10!
The one test kit I think I’m missing is oxygen, but that can wait until something needs treating, as I’ve got an 80lpm air pump, and a venturi on the return outlet too so oxygen won’t be a problem day to day.

New pond syndrome is essentially just what you koi lot call the nitrogen cycle issues in a new system right?

Attached the coping and trimmed the liner back today, and it’s made it all look a lot neater. It’s just decking boards for now, but I plan on swapping this for slate somewhere down the line!

Slate would have been about £170, and the decking boards were £30. And right now I’d much rather spend that £140 on a tosai kohaku I’ve had my eye on! 50% staff discount really is a lifesaver HCairns's 7500l Sleeper Build

Finally, there are fish in the pond!
I picked up the 3 that I showed previously, mum offered to take photos of them as I put them in the pond, but they’re all unusable so enjoy a rubbish shot of them at the bottom HCairns's 7500l Sleeper Build

I also picked up a bottle of EA’s pure filter gel which I’ve used in the past, and put a generous coating of that on the k1...

And of course, couldn’t go to the shop without buying more fish too, so I got the kohaku I had my eye on, which is staying at the shop for now...
