One feed from mains via dechlorinator (the spray over spills into the flow of the pond through to the bio).
The other is a 12V seaflo pressure pump fed off a 1000l IBC with 3.2 bar pressure switch 3 GpM.

The key to this is, an RDF efficiency to clean is based on the pressure of the nozzles, other than the clean duration. Minimum mains is 1bar to property land entry. On opening a tap/valve pressure drops with the flow. This massively depends on your mains pressure, the size of pipework from property land entry through to the RDF.

My mains is 2.4 bar, but during cleaning drops to 0.8 at the drum, I have installed a tee piece with 5L accumulator set to 1.8 bar. It holds at 1.9 bar minimum on mains. My pressure pump at 2.7 but declines as the cycle goes on down to around 1.5 bar. I'm going to upgrade to a 5.5 GpM pump.

Just wanted to share my experience and overview, along with an ideal solution. It makes the efficiency of the cycle so much better.

I've switched for the temporary setup to 25mm MDPE from the outside tap. In fact I broke the spray bar coupling (the nut split after doing up too tight) so I have to order a 20mm coupling and replace it. Then the drum will be back in action. Gives me a chance to practice solvent welding

Water pressure is over 2 bar at that tap, it's likely to drop over distance but for now it's good. I may even try making the pump run off solar and battery if I go down that route. However that's added complexity when I need to finish the dig first!

Ha ha it's (making it run on solar) easily done.

I can provide you with information and setup for what is needed, should you want it.

I see the clay is giving you plenty of work. Looks tough. Where are you located?

Well no strain and bending down for a bit until this has settled down..

On the good news - the drum is back together and operational plus I have experience of cutting, priming and gluing PVC pipe because of it.

So I have decided to simply buy a 'plastic' (actually fibreglass) road plates. £160+VAT it will be cheaper than hiring and delivery of metal road plates (last two was £150 not including the problems with the delivery and access). At 44Kg each rather than 480Kg they can be manhandled on the day of skip removal so I don't have to worry about them skidding around. Given I will have to have skips etc in the future as we intend to replace the conservatory with an extension. So in the long run this will save money and can be sold on after.

Although 44Kg they can cope with the axle of a 44 ton lorry over a 70cm gap. (note the really 'safe' demonstration of lifting by the individuals in the photo lol)

The dig continues.. widened out the rear to depth and on the right side. The road plate will be here end of next week, so I can start thinking about the next skip - issue I have is that I have to ensure I have enough dug out to simply move the soil in the mornings for two weeks. That's going to plan.. I think I have enough for a second skip now above ground by the time it's delivered.

Decided to carry on digging whilst there was still light. Shakey hands as I'm shot after all that digging today.

Also made a video.. that is currently finishing it's processing..

I assume one skip - the remainders will end up filling the existing pond (1.0).

Ahhhh that's not too bad then, a task deadline on the horizon which is a good feeling !!

    What's next after that ??

Once the dig out is done, including the pipe trenches, it's onto the pipework I've got most of the pipework now - just need a couple of 45 degrees for the pipes as I've decided it would be easier bringing the pipes up shallow under the floor of the garage rather than digging down 1.5m! I also have to move the rodding eye. That should be easy enough todo. Once that's done and tested, the trench can be backfilled and then the MOT1 sub base and compaction, membrane, rebar sheets, levels marked and concrete slab pour can be done.

I've learnt that most places (hire/construction) don't really operate on a plan but more of a 'call us in a week or two beforehand'. There's a couple of options for the pour - I could take out the fence slats and allow a straight truck to pit drop if the neighbours around the back are ok moving their cars for the pour. Alternatively a pump and boom from the road, up the drive, over the garage or house and into the pit. I may ask if a mate can pop around given levelling 3m3 C35 with one person is going to take a while.

As discussed on a separate thread, with winter around the corner - I'm contemplating add a pagoda with a poly covering just to keep the worst of the weather off however that adds more complication and delays. I would help with the fibreglass but I'm unsure if I want one longer term. Will have to think.

I still need to order the 110mm valves, and a few other bits but those aren't needed immediately, I'm financially planning this over time and within the space constraints I have. Once the pipework and slab is down, I will have a load more space for the blocks, mortar (I'll probably buy a concrete mixer then sell it on).

Once the blocks are going down, and I have about 6weeks lead time as a guess - I'll order the window and fibreglass.

Just had a quick dig whilst waiting for lunch to cook.

So it seems that the waste pipe isn't that deep - I can see a 45 elbow and I assume a T junction for the drain pipe. This makes it relatively easy to alter.

    IMG_8241.jpg

Also looking at the sketchup again - as I need to start marking the precise locations (I did this previously by spray marking points but those have disappeared with the digger!). The corner metal pin remains so I'll put in some additional pin markers in alignment with the sketchup.

If anyone needs an application for doing their pond - I recommend sketchup. It takes a little getting used to the controls but it's very good.

I may need to bring the wall a few cm in if I want to run the pipes shallow along side the wall but will have a look at the ground markings once they are back down - things look different when you have a big hole vs a diagram:

    Screenshot 2020-09-29 at 13.02.55.jpg

That depth of pipe was never going to be possible - instead I will run a 45 degree up to a shallow depth before it goes under the garage slab.

Also you'll see that the wall is 27 cm from the fence, so putting a return means a 14cm gap between the fence support spur and the wall.. not good for a 110mm pipe! So instead I may move this wall about 5-10cm to the left, giving a little more room at a loss of some capacity. Gut feeling is that it would loose me 4.18m2 x 0.05 = 0.209 or 209 litres for 5cm or 418l for 10cm. (calculating the area is easy in sketch up!)

Yay! I'm not the only one who mocks-up in CAD first Pond 2.0 I use Sweethome 3D - free like Sketchup. So helpfull in making to-scale plans and really helps you work out the pros and cons before you make decisions. My most recent use was for my new filter and when we came to install, everything was perfect with only mm discrepancies here and there.

For anyone with a bit of computer savvy, these SW offerings are really worth a try. You don't need formal training just a bit of patience and some YouTube training as you go.

Had a quick 40 minutes to get some digging and the first line remarked. I need more measurements for the other lines but I love my laser level

    IMG_8242.jpg

Once those lines are in place it's simply digging away.

The new road plate arrives tomorrow (no hiring another from now on). And then I'll arrange a new skip then during the lead time - keep digging out.

I had a look at 10cm may lose 418 litres but it also seems to make sense with shallow returns considering the closeness of the garage foundations.

Not what you envisage being critical pieces of kit for your build but I took delivery of this.

"Max 44 ton load over a 700mm trench. Product weight 42Kg 2 Person lift". (it's got banks of solid metal pins on the underside to lock into a trench. It's also moveable by one person and a wheelbarrow

This should go a long way to solving the manhole cover situation in the future.

This project rather has the feel of civil engineering as opposed to back garden pond building Pond 2.0

Well above the water table so it drains quickly, thankfully. I will look at ordering some timber for a pagoda/work roof. There’s a little erosion but only on the top layers the boards help. Once the roof is up it should help keep rain etc off it will be needed for the fibreglass. A skip needed first though to make space as the spoil heap is taking over the garden.

May get it finished tomorrow - then it’s pipe trenches.
